Australian news is fucked if this is what they have to do to win over viewers:
Does Nine News Queensland usually do the same sort of major event tie-in ticket/family pass competitions that Nine News Sydney (and sometimes Seven News Sydney) does on a semi-regular basis?
Of course, I agree that itâs rather tacky to run competitions giving away cash or prizes to get people watching the 6pm news.
Cash Cow at Six, here we come!
Iâm honestly not sure because I donât watch any of their content on terrestrial tv, I just catch up on some content through their social media. I know before this they had a promo with Isuzu Ute Australia about winning some of their cars etc. 7 News Brisbane are just as bad often spruiking particular events that they sponsor, such as the Ekka etc.
Pretty much the only reason I watch TEN Eyewitness News is you actually get a good balance of local & overseas news without all the other shit, I honestly couldnât care less if they use another networks vision or voice a story from Aus - if Iâm getting the facts from someone I trust thatâs all I really care about.
Great find TVAU! For what itâs worth, here is a short On-Air promo for the game.
Presumably there was a very tight battle between National Nine News and Seven Nightly News in Sydney and Melbourne back in 1992 for Nine to consider running a viewer competition of that magnitude as part of their 6pm news bulletinâŚ
9 News Melbourne are airing promos giving their viewers the chance to attend this yearâs Carols by Candlelight by tuning in to be able to participate.
Even Nine News Sydney has been giving away double passes to NRL matches during this season.
Viewers just have to watch Nine News on certain nights to find out how to get them.
Yep I believe that Nine News Sydney have done several NRL double pass competitions throughout this season, including for the State Of Origin and Grand Final of course.
Other viewer competitions from âSydneyâs #1 Newsâ over the past year or so have included (but not necessarily limited to):
*Summer Of Cricket double passes (this one was done last year, but I wouldnât be too surprised if they do it again before the end of the 2016 ratings year)
*Sydney Royal Easter Show family passes
*Wet & Wild Sydney family passes
*Taronga Zoo family passes
Iâd imagine that sponsorship or at least a heavy involvement in these events and entertainment venues would allow Nine to get all those competition tickets for free or at least heavily discounted.
A source I have just confirmed what we suspected, that the Perth set will be rolled out nationally. Cannot wait
EDIT: My source says there is not an exact timeline for them to roll out, but over the next year. The designer is finalizing each layout now as each stationâs studio is a little different size/shape.
Any idea when the first one will be?
Not sure at this stage. Iâll try and find out.
Also, http://www.dd8.tv/9-news. Has some concept images including sydneyâŚ
Great news, first time since mid-2009 there will be a new set for the capitals of the east coast! Hopefully that also means that Queenslandâs news will be broadcast in HD not crappy SD.
My source says with the new set Queensland will upgrade to HD.
Is it just me or perhaps the Gold Coast studio is only temporary. Obviously it wonât be anywhere as big as the others but it would explain the poor look.
My sauce tastes like tomatoes.
Getting off the subject of new sets because Iâm sure everyone knows my opinion by now, Iâd really like to see Nine refresh the sound of their news service (but keeping some familiarity intact, of course) as well as the look of it: New sound effects, an update to the theme music and yes, some new voiceovers for the Sydney Openers too.
While Iâm sure not everyone will agree, I think itâs time to move on from the Peter Harvey voiceovers for the Openers as well. Keeping Harvesâ VOs in use initially after his death is understandable, but keeping them in use 3-4 years after his death is rather tacky IMO.
I can perfectly understand that TV news is changing and evolving all the time. The Nine News of 2016 going on 2017 is different to the Nine News of 2012 going on 2013, but the sound of the news service needs to be updated as well as the look to properly reflect that IMO.
I agree, updated opening, ad break, sound effect and closing theme music (based on Cool Hand Luke), new voiceovers, and while theyâre at it, how about a HD camera for the live backdrop too.
The live shot of Perth is in HD, just zoomed in at times
Definitely not the slightly modified 2001-2006 theme Melbourne used with the cow bells or whatever!
