Doesn’t really matter, the content and presentation is at the heart of news, no one cares about the backdrop, it’s a shame they don’t use these sets to their potential.
The backdrop is part of the presentation… what are you talking about? If it doesn’t matter, then maybe we should just have a black screen behind the presenter. I’m sure that would go down well with viewers.
As long as its pleasant to look at and ambiguous the backdrop is fine. In regards to presentation I was referring to the delivery of the bulletin ie readers and use of set.
Have there been any shots of the new screen that was installed for Today yet?
Not that I’ve seen. The presentation has become very formulaic recently, same set of shots/angles every night.
Yep, I second this! Personally I reckon ever since they moved to robotic cameras, the shots have become very predictable and visually boring.
Considering the variety of camera angles that have been seen from the same set/studio on Today this week (going by caps posted in the relevant thread of this forum), I’d probably say that the Sydney 6pm bulletin’s decision to limit their choice of camera angles is a stylistic choice by Simon Hobbs and/or his advisories rather than anything technical.
Yes. Robotic cameras are programmable and can be moved by remote. Nothing other than themselves and space limitations (which don’t look to be a factor there) are stopping them from doing that at 6pm.
Might be just me, but I focus on the content not the angle of the camera or whether the anchor has a hair out of place.
As seen here, these are new Breaking News graphics.
Also seen tonight in Melbourne

Just watched a few minutes of sport on 9News Brisbane. Always sounds like the voiceovers are recorded in a studio- which surely they are - but the sound is “tinny”. From memory, it’s always been like that way back to when I was a child. It’s only the sport stories I notice it on. And only on 9.
I assume these new tourism advertising plugs slotted into the Melbourne Weather segment are paid advertorials?
Of course! By deed poll.
I bet he goes by “Rod Staplestransport” for short anyway.
Imagine if he took a job at Staples?
Okay, Google: how to pronounce ‘NSW’
Nine News Adelaide (at 5) showing content from NBN News with the NBNNews.com.au watermark
Guessing they just ripped it from the NBN facebook page…?
Always make me laugh when the GC news crosses to their reporter in Surfers Paradise for all the latest on a story. As seen tonight.
