And your prediction for Townsville etc. New sets or touched up castoffs?
Probably āmodifiedā versions of the sets that the capital cities are getting rid of, Iād imagine!
If the enthusiasm that @Read_It_First expressed for 9 Gold Coast News is anything to go by, the changes to 9 in Perth will be of similar quality.
Yes. The best new graphics in my opinion are TENās.
9 News current package would have to be my least favourite, I even prefer 7ās half arsed refreshed effort.
Nine Newsā current branding has served them well, but they definitely need to update it now that Ten and Seven (albeit, a very slow and stilted rollout in this case) have updated and that even ABC News is apparently considering a branding refresh. That said, I somehow still prefer Nineās current look to Seven Newsā current branding which looks much more like something that was launched around 2011-13 rather than 2016 going on 2017!
I know they most likely wonāt, but I also hope Nine News updates their theme music along with the sets and graphics. Iāve been well and truly over the current version of Nine Newsā theme music for quite some time now!
I dislike the flatness of the current supers. Id like a return to some new 3D and 2D combo (sorta like the mock I made)
But as others have mentioned, 10 win
7 Perth News have been dominating for decades. It will be a long time before 9 dethrones them. More details will be revealed at the relaunch
Iām just hoping that Perth utilises their street front location. Every time I happen to see Adelaideās studio, the black curtains are drawn. Hmm maybe when the weather turns on the sunshine, I might check it out during the main bulletin
Any ideas as to what the second studio is? Is this another surprise that Nine has up itās sleeve or is it a smaller studio to be used for commercial productions and station promotions?
Anyway an exciting time for STW9 Perth although it is a bit sad that both STW and TVW have left Dianella.
they should use it for Today Perth News
My main thought was that the 2nd studio might just be a smaller one (like a number of stations have) that houses a small set which live crosses for national programs/bulletins can be done from without having to use the main news set along with a green screen and other stuff for commercial productions and station promotions.
I imagine It will be a small single camera studio near the newsroom for headlines & live crosses to Today or eastern states bulletins etc.
just a chair or two in front of a green screen or Perth backdrop.
Similar to the 9 Adelaide setup
They are called Talent Operated Suites - A single operator studio with a large monitor that can have any back ground on it.
Used for network live crosses etc.
Poor Wally - he always looks so uncomfortable standing. Last Monday was one of the few times he wasnāt gripping that script tightly. Notice how every sports reports starts with the Broncos

Anyone think Nine could surprise us and begin HD coverage for all states when this refresh happens? Do they even have such equipment ready ?
Well Nine Adelaide is a fully HD studio, after Perth move house, Brisbane and Darwin would be the only mainland capital cities (excluding Canberra) without HD facilities. Happy to be corrected
Is the Parliament House studio in Canberra now HD, or is it still SD.
Edit: A good story in Media Week from back in May about the Nine News setup in Canberra.
Presumably, the new sets and graphics will be in-house job rather than something done by an external design company? Admittedly Iād really like to see how an external design company like DD8 would do a Nine News relaunch. But if Nine is doing this without any external help as I suspect it will (knowing that most of Nine Newsā recent refreshes have been done in-house), hopefully they use those who oversaw the Federal Election graphics or Todayās 2016 refresh rather than those who oversaw the recently refreshed Nine Gold Coast News!
Yep, that sounds about right.
I canāt imagine that Brisbane/Gold Coast, Darwin or NBN will get any HD upgrades within the foreseeable future, but one never knows what the future may bringā¦
Anything that comes out of Nineās Parliament House studio/bureau in Canberra is still all SD (although Iām sure Laurie Oakes and Lane Calcutt appreciate that!), as far as Iām aware.
Thought to share this link that I just found. A little look inside Nineās new Perth building: http://www.diverseshopfitters.com.au/work/commercial-interiors/channel-nine
Nothing Set related, but a taste of interior style in the new building, and a lot of it is Marble! That seems to be popular with some Networks (Seven, Iām looking at you!) Reminds me when I heard during the āBondā Era, Allan Bond put marble fixtures inside the soon-to-be former studios!

kingmanvisual Working on the signage for the new home of Channel 9 created a sea of Blue in our factory recently. Using a combination of painted aluminum and illuminating acrylic faces, these oversize letters pop right off their new building. #behindthescenestuesday #channel9 #Ninenewsperth #kingmanvisual #illuminatedletters #oversizedlogo #perthbuildingsignage #talentedteam @9newsperth
