Nine News Content and Appearance (2015-Sept 2020)

I really don’t think audiences are as fragile to lights and shiny surfaces as you think they are. I understand that there’s this grey area between news being too flashy and entertaining, and news doing what it’s meant to. I can see the link there with this new set - it’s a step in that direction. But that wooden panelling and duratrans was so dated. So much so, the blue in the Sydney set was fading to an aqua blue. It was time for a renovation and anyone who has done renovations would know that you need to get it right the first time and do something that will last as long as possible.

Absolutely love it. Finally joining 21st Century set making, although probably a decade too late.

I particularly like that shot of Cam on the catwalk presenting sport. The design of the set has obviously taken cues from various broadcasters and the various methods they’ve adopted for presenting from sets. The set is pretty much a mash-up of ABC News US and BBC News’ Studio E.

To be fair, they’ve got to start somewhere. As it so happens, QTQ is probably the best place for new talent to get a foothold with its sizable market and daytime local bulletins.

I was surprised at how muted the use of the set was. No over-the-top flashy swooshes or gimmicks.

It’s a relief.

I agree, Nine’s is better. The lighting on Seven’s set looks cheap. Reminds me of when you see fluoro light diffusers on ceilings that haven’t been cleaned in ages. It has a really blurry look to it and it’s probably a bit too sterile.

I agree with most of the comments posted so far, the new set is quite striking, particularly things like the “Breaking News” strips below the desk. Pretty cool!

The one disappointment I have is that the camera used to film the live skyline shot is STILL SD only.
The fact that the rest of set has moved on has only served to further highlight how outdated that now seems.

My only issue is with the new set/camera angles is Pete needs to hide his earpiece cable under his jacket.

Uploading…

That’s a screw up, probably in direction.
It’s not a new rule that the earpiece is on a/the side that (as best as possible) shouldn’t be shown to the camera, so in this case Peter’s rear left shouldn’t have been aired; a different camera angle should’ve been broadcast. Probably just a glitch with the new set changes.

Or like I said put it under jacket and then the camera angle isn’t an issue. I think it looks very unprofessional when not put under anyway. It looks very sky newsish

For viewers in Sydney, how is that Cameron Williams doing?

Is there great chemistry with Peter Overton & Amber GetAJacket?

Queensland’s local Morning and Afternoon News have returned as of today (:disappointed:).

Nine news Melbourne updates seem same as normal so don’t think we will get the new set yet

If true, I wonder why they have chosen not to?

Perhaps maybe…Melbourne’s new set isn’t quite ready yet?

I’m sure that you’ll see it on air at some point so just be patient and stay tuned.

I swear the lighting just looked slightly different in the update that aired. Maybe I’m just seeing things :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: Nope all the same :stuck_out_tongue:

Probably under the circumstances of that story… maybe not a good idea to use that as a joke? (The No Show)

Pete has been back since last week. Set would debut Jan 30 I’d say. That’s when 9 seem to be pushing (Married at first sight etc)
Or the start of Regional news. Jo Hall said they would be side by side (sets)

Just becaus Sydney’s has, doesn’t mean Melbourne had to follow suit straight away.
