Nicholas and Clarke are freelance now. They and Slater were part of the international commentary team for the recent Cricket World Cup.

Nicholas has a job with Supersport in South Africa and recently hosted a couple of regular programs for the channel during the cricket World Cup.

Apparently he has said he is still available.

I think they’ll just take the Sky Sports feed and have Mark Taylor and Ian Healy in a studio doing the pre game, lunch and tea break coverage.

There’s a good chance that Shane Warne and/or Ricky Ponting might be part of the Sky Sports commentary team

You could be right, but that would be ashame, Channel 9 need to make the most of the opportunity to do a non-ICC event, but because it’s the Ashes, Channel 9 will preyfully make a better effort than the World Cup and Women’s Ashes, because they need to impress Foxtel customers, so that they (200,000/600,000) people viewing watch the World Cup on Nine. If I had millions of dollars I would help out Channel 9, but they have to do better, yes they have excellent commentators, but I love them to do ball by ball Live commentary, perhaps they should make up their own Cricket Series like World Series Cricket, because cricket boards are funded by broadcasting rights anyway.

Will we see the return of the Channel 9 Cricket theme for the Ashes?

My prediction is yes!

Yes; they had the theme playing in the background during the World Cup. It’s cricket, it’s nine, so it will be there.

We will certainly hear New Horizons, what else can Channel 9 do, they used a modified version in the Women’s Ashes, but they should use it.

Well this is a left-field decision:

At least it allows James Bracey and Erin Molan to continue in their role in Nine’s NRL coverage.

Mel Jones is in England commentating for Sky, but assuming she moves to Channel 9 for the Ashes. Must be on my number three option where they will host from England, and go to Sky Coverage.

Has there been any indication that Nine are doing their own commentary?

They’ll be doing the same as what they did for the World Cup matches. Pre-match, innings break and post-match coverage from the Melbourne studio (hosted by Todd Woodbridge with Taylor/Healy/Sthalekar/Jones) and taking the Sky Sport’s feed for match play.

Will Nine use Sky or their own Nine graphics?

Most likely Sky’s graphics

He proved himself at the Comm Games last year, though some may disagree and not like him full stop.
