I don’t think Fox Sports has broadcast it since losing the BBL rights.
I know networks work close with the respective sport organisation they broadcast.
So the Australian Open fast approaching, I was wondering if CA / Ch 9 try to minimise the impact of the Australian Open?
That is, do they intentionally put as many ODIs / T20 internationals / BBL games as possible in late January, to try and take viewers away from the Australian Open / Ch 7?
Or is it just a coincidence / normal scheduling?
Cricket and tennis are both summer sports, many people are still on holidays, no school or uni - no conspiracy. Worldwide sporting schedules are more likely to play a role than petty bickering between Australian television stations.
That’s rubbish.
I think the ODIs have been scheduled this way more because of the BBL than anything.
Cricket Aust wouldn’t want ODIs and BBL on at the same time, so one of them was going to be up against the Australian Open.
Fairfax writer Debi Enker doesn’t much like Nine’s cricket coverage.
Big Bash League: Nine’s cricket coverage is stale and blokey so don’t let them near the BBL

Bill Lawry commentating today!
I agree. The commentary has gone down quickly in the 2010s mostly due to the passing of Tony Greig in end of 2012 and Benaud in 2015. James ‘Unbelievable’ Brayshaw also being poached for the Nine Cricket Team. He continued to talk a lot of garbage, spouting some blatant bias towards Australians. Thank god, he is gone for good. It’s not just him, Clarke offers nothing, Heals and Tubs goes off tangents, Chappell has lost the plot.
Personally, I quite like Chappelli…
I think he is accurate and doesn’t go on with any BS, but yes, he can be a bit dry and boring.
Yes, Taylor and Healy in particular tend to stray from what’s happening In the game a bit too much.
As for the bias in the commentary, I think Healy is the worst of them all.
It’s pretty obvious at times.
He is my least favourite.
The others (Slater, Nicholas, Warne) are mostly inoffensive enough and get the job done, but are certainly nothing special. And I’m not sure why Clarke is there… like you said, he doesn’t really add any value.
And that “laughter” in the background is a bit irritating, as most of the time, what a commentator has said isn’t really funny at all, it might be mildly amusing at best.
Not to mention wouldn’t shut up about AFL.
Tom Moody commentating today.
What’s wrong with talking about the footy?
Lots of commentators do it.
I think it’s great to see other sports discussed, we all love sport in Australia ![]()
Ch 7 and Ch 10 always bring up the footy during their sports telecasts as well…
Not a bad pick-up ![]()
They must be bored if they start talking about anything else. Surely they can talk about what they are watching.
True, maybe they are?
Or maybe if a game is one sided or something
Nothing as long as it’s done sparingly.
Yeah he gets around a bit. He’s obviously a freelancer
It wrong because… it’s safe to assume viewers are interested in cricket, but not everyone is interested in whatever other sport they may feel like chatting about instead of doing their job, adding value to the video been shown of the cricket match in-progress.
I agree with you Luke. It’s amazing that people complain about mine going off topic with their comments, ten do it and abc also do it - the other day abc where even talking about chickens!!
Unfortunately the quality of ABC Radio sports coverage has deteriorated in recent years, with the NRL a poor imitation of 2GB’s tragedy. At Nine and Ten they need to concentrate on the job at hand that is right in front of them - the cricket.
I don’t know how much clought the sporting bodies have when it comes to this sort of thing.
