Shane Warne and Waqar Younis commentating. That’s more like it.
Channel 9 finally listening. We want all commentating combinations.

Yes… bill Lawry and Waqar were good as well.
But now we have taylor and Healy… my ears are bleeding. The talk so much shit.
Watching the highlights from 1990/91 during the rainbreak. Showed that they were happy to have more than one overseas commentator. Not sure who one of them were but recognised the voices of Bob Willis and Geoff Boycott
Yay Lawry and Chappell in the box
Got 'im, yes!
Piss off ya’ out!!
Nice VIC combination to call the test win and indeed the series win just before, Bill Lawry & Shane Warne.
What a miracle, great coverage by Ch 9 (albeit painful commentary and antics at times)
Dead rubber for Third Test at SCG.
One of these “Correct me if I’m wrong” posts but here’s a history of English voices (excluding Tony Greig who was a regular) for Ashes series in Australia when covered by Channel 9 (the 1979/80 series was not for the Ashes, neither was the Bicentenary test in 1988)…
1982/83: Frank Tyson, Fred Trueman
1986/87: Bob Willis
1990/91: Willis, Geoff Boycott
1994/95: Boycott
1998/99: Ian Botham
2002/2003: Michael Atherton
2006/2007: Various for the first test including David Lloyd and David Gower, don’t think anyone was heard though from Adelaide onward
2010/2011:
2013/2014: David Lloyd, Michael Vaughan
Wonder what it was like with Botham and Ian Chappell commentating together in 1998/99. For those not in the know, they have a feud that stretches back to the 70’s.
Most of these names mentioned above are part of Sky Sports’ cricket commentary team. However with BT Sport having the UK rights to the 2017/18 Ashes series, Nine may solely rely on its own team or at best invite one commentator from BT as the English voice. I also think Kevin Pietersen may be available but it will depend on commitments with his family and the Melbourne Stars.
I’m pretty sure that they’ve both also been commentators at ICC tournaments, and if I recall correctly, (in that instance at least), the commentary teams were set up so that they would not be in the commentary box together at any time.
Michael Vaughan and Graeme Swann works for BT and KP will probably be available for the first 3 tests if he continues to play in the BBL next summer.
Yeah your list looks about right and yes Tony Greig would be counted as a local since he’s settled in Australia by then. (Mind you I think Frank Tyson did eventually as well)
Was intrigued by David Gower working for Channel 9 during 1992/93 summer with the Windies and Pakistan being the touring teams.
Not to mention they often have other commitments - they might be on the radio as well (Like Slater was doing with Nine & Triple M)
NINJA EDIT: I’m sure Nine have used Bumble (Lloyd) a few times recently - I’m pretty sure he did one test before the World Cup recently too
No, there was a mini tri-series (Australia, England, India) before the 2015 World Cup and Michael Vaughan may have been in the commentary team for that as well.
Throwback to the 2012 graphics where white on white is not a good idea!
And the opener from that test in 720p50!
Michael Slater hosting the toss today. First time someone other than Mark Nicholas has done it for at least a decade!
Really? Wow that’s an amazing feat if correct.
So Mark Nicholas must still be very unwell.
Prayers to him and his family.
Concerning
yeah hes taking Leave I think it was a mistake for him to have tried to return so we may not see him for some time yet
