Newshub is delighted to announce Ryan Bridge as the new host of The AM Show, broadcast on Three weekdays from 6-9am.
Long-time stand-in presenter for the show, Ryan is a former Newshub reporter and RadioLIVE political reporter. He has most recently been the host of Magic Talk’s drive show and has also filled in as a guest presenter on Newshub Nation.
Ryan says: “I am really excited to be the new host of The AM Show. There’s nothing quite like morning television - it’s live, largely unscripted and allows you to connect with everyday Kiwis as they get ready to take on the day.”
“It’s a huge privilege to be joining Discovery and I look forward to working with the entire team to deliver compelling television, while tackling the issues that matter. And of course, having a whole lot of fun while we’re at it.”
Newshub’s Director of News, Sarah Bristow, says: “Ryan is a truly exciting broadcaster who is perfectly suited to a dynamic morning show. He flawlessly pivots from conducting hard-hitting interviews to sharing engaging and entertaining anecdotes, driven by his innate curiosity and genuine desire to connect with his audiences. Television is his passion and I am excited to welcome him back to Newshub and Three.”
Ryan Bridge has been hosting the show following the recent announcement of Duncan Garner’s resignation. He will be joined by Amanda Gillies and Mark Richardson.
Thats awesome! His opinions I dont always agree with, but hes definitely the perfect person for the job. Hopefully next year the set and format are shaken up to match the teams new dynamic
Unless I’m reading too much into the press release, seems like The AM Show is going to transition into being a TV program rather than the hybrid TV/radio format it currently has. If/when it happens, wonder how much it’ll change.
Would have thought Jenna Lynch would be the ‘natural’ replacement for Tova should she depart from that role.
The websites guidelines say
“The Hei Tiki and slogan are both part
of the logo and these two elements shouldn’t be separated. The logo can be used in either the vertical or horizontal format, in the supplied eps or png files”
I would say the government would have talked about the brand guidelines to remove the text to make it work. I’ve seen the logo elsewhere by itself so I don’t think it’s a must have.
The sponsor interruption during the Newshub bulletins for the sport and weather feel ultra tacky. Fine for 6pm when it’s coming off the ad break, but during the other bulletins when it’s between breaks looks pretty unprofessional.
I quite enjoyed what Newshub did this week and I hope that they decide to keep some of that extra Te Reo Maori on screen, especially this, both languages fit very well together here IMO
NEWSHUB TO LAUNCH A NEW LOOK FOR THE AM SHOW IN 2022
Newshub has announced that it will be launching a new look of its morning news and current affairs show, The AM Show from January 2022.
Recently appointed host of the show, Ryan Bridge, will be continuing in his role, joined by a new hosting team in 2022 with long time presenters Amanda Gillies and Mark Richardson moving to other opportunities within Newshub and Three.
Amanda, a seasoned award-winning journalist with over 20 years experience, has been appointed to a Newshub National Correspondent role, covering and breaking stories of national significance. Mark will continue as host of Three’s most popular DIY show, The Block NZ as well as regularly appearing as a fourth host on The Project.
Newshub’s Director of News, Sarah Bristow says: “Amanda and Mark have been an important part of the success of The AM Show over the last five years and will remain an important part of Newshub and Three going forward. With the current hosting line-up continuing for the remainder of the year, we will celebrate their outstanding contribution in December.”
“Looking ahead to 2022, we have an exciting opportunity to reinvigorate the format of The AM Show. Our focus remains unchanged - to deliver a best-in-class product that sets the news agenda of the day - and evolving the existing format of the show is a natural progression. We look forward to sharing more with you in the coming months.”
Amanda Gillies says the last five years have been a privilege: “It’s the best job in the world but with the worst hours. I have never taken the studio seat for granted, and I have been lucky enough to work with the dream team, on and off screen. There have been plenty of laughs, tears and unforgettable moments.”
Mark Richardson says: “This has been a dream job for me in so many ways - I have experienced news and current affairs broadcasting from the best seat in the house, even getting to play a few shots myself every now and again. It has allowed me to develop and grow my personal depth in the industry, all while having a heck of a lot of fun.” “I want to thank everyone involved with the show who have all played a part in achieving something that is nothing short of excellence. I would especially like to mention my two main co-hosts, Duncan Garner and Amanda Gillies. Five years together in this format of broadcasting is exceptional. You are champions, and I will go into bat with you guys against anyone, anywhere.”
I hope they don’t go backwards, THE AM SHOW is quite unique in its format so hope they add to the format rather than turning it into the norm for a breakfast show.
Mark Richardson surely has something else in the bag, I think Discovery needs to find something else for Mark in Prime Time, perhaps another reality show for him to host when not doing The Block.
I liked what Newshub did in lockdown with The Delta special, was it called Newshub Investigates? Amanda should host this series in 2022 if they turn it into a series throughout the year
