Quite interesting to read the opinions since the Stuff WBD deal was announced… particularly Mark Jennings who as it turns out was in the running
I don’t think people worry about the presentation as much as he makes out
If that is the case Paul Henry/ The AM Show’s tv/radio simulcast show would never have been a success. Remembering they pointed a camera at a couple of screens for the weather for the first few years which looked terrible and the studio was tiny, visually it was nothing special. Also TVNZ Breakfast has continued since covid to interview via zoom, even politicians when they could make the short trip to their wellington studios. does it matter? these days, probably not.
I did laugh at Glen Kyne’s excitement for Stuff’s plan to innovate the 6pm news. Like they haven’t had years to do just that and create a real point of difference to 1.
Yes, but given Stuff has a 20+ history of being the country’s number one news site I’m sure people would cope. Maybe not people on this forum, but NZers.
They should have gone full Gower. “The Fuckin’ News”
I’ve never understood why they insisted on going directly against TVNZ for so long (newshour at 6 followed by something vaguely news-based at 7). They’ve never consistently beaten One News in the ratings, have they? So try something different.
I said this before but I think a half hour bulletin at 7 would work really well. Not everyone is home at 6, and I don’t the news needs to be an hour anyway. (Unless you do a more analytical bulletin like Channel 4 News in the UK, but that wouldn’t really work on TV3). If that works then maybe down the line bring back something like Nightline (such a brilliant show. Never understood why they ditched it).
