Isn’t QandA done out of Sydney? Would they consider moving the whole team down south to accommodate Virginia?
Lisa Millar will be co-hosting with Michael tomorrow and next week.
Virginia will be back on News Breakfast 14 May.

She likely has accrued annual leave and the ABC want her to use them up by the end of the year. It is also a good opportunity for them to trial a possible replacement.

Someone mentioned it earlier, it’s hard for the ABC to rate because of the inconsistency with the presenters because they’re always off doing other assignments or are on leave hard to develop a relationship with the viewers. Such a shame Virginia is leaving as she carries the program a hell of a lot and started with the program.
I remember back in 2008, (reading on here) the first ever ratings the show recorded. It would have been within the first two months the program was on air. It was only getting between 4-12k national on ABC2. Now it’s averaging almost 190k some days.

With Michael Rowland seen as the best replacement for Barrie Cassidy on Insiders, this article questions whether Virginia’s departure was the best timing for News Breakfast. Meanwhile, Lisa Millar is hot favourite for Trioli’s gig.

Really? I’d think someone like Fran Kelly or PK would take over.
The News Breakfast role is a way better gig (now days) than the mid local morning 774 radio role. But I can completely understand her wanting to change roles and do something different after 12 years. Good on her. She could easily do Q&A and 774 if she wanted too.
Rowland will get Insiders. He’ll just have fridays off from News Breakfast.

Between hosting the ABC’s coverage of the last few state elections, filling in on Insiders a few weeks ago and how he’s featuring in the election night coverage - it’s been made obvious over the past few weeks that Rowland will almost certainly get the Insiders gig

Another day, another article speculating about who will replace Trioli. The Sunday Telegraph is speculating that the frontrunners are Patricia Karvelas, Tamara Oudyn (apparently an ‘ABC insider’ said she’s viewed as a “young Virginia”) and Lisa Millar.
Meanwhile, Paul Kennedy is the frontrunner to replace Rowland if he decides to leave the show - he’s ‘keen’ to replace Barry Cassidy on Insiders.
Make of all of that what you will…

Lisa Millar has been Virginia’s main fill in covering her long service leave and currently filling in for her.
I think a hint was given the other morning when Michael was talking to Virginia about her impending departure and he read out some comments from Facebook one was from a Lisa and Virginia laughed and said is that from Lisa Millar.

Tamara did News Breakfast years ago for a few fill-in stints. With all due respect she was terrible. Couldn’t ad-lib at all or interview. And the personality of a house brick. Nothing at all like Virginia Trioli. Would be an absurd choice.
And Why Would Patricia give up her afternoon and evening gigs for a breakfast show? She’s a political animal.
terrible idea. Paul needs to master what he’s doing now- and god knows he’s had long enough- before he gets the big seat.
They should get Joe back on Breakfast if Michael ever left.
I really like Joe O’Brien. He would be a good replacement, though I hope Michael doesn’t depart.
As for Paul getting promoted, that would give Georgie Tunny (who is a part of the News Breakfast family) a permanent role, which makes sense.
Lisa is highly likely to replace Virginia. Her and Michael worked together years ago (so they have chemistry) and, her stint earlier this year, was the start of News Breakfast starting to really challenge Today.

I would very surprised if the ABC moved Tamara to News Breakfast as she only replaced Ian Henderson last October.
Lisa Millar would be my preferred option.
