News Breakfast

I’ve never rated Fauziah. She was crap on Al Jazeera and she’s crap on News Breakfast. Really she belongs on Sky News where she could have a go at Labor until the cows come home. I’m probably a bit old-fashioned but I think it would be better if Jo (or even Kath!) had a male co-host.

James Glenday is the best male host this program has had.

Well, that was an “egg on face” moment … you just can’t trust some internet sources, although it’s not the first time this has happened. “Freeview” still has this Weekend Breakfast being hosted by Jo and Fauziah, so did they jump the gun last Friday? Tomoorow will tell, but I still stand by my conviction that Kath is the lynchpin around which the success of this program rests.

Why are you so obsessed with Kath?

Because she is good. Because she is better.

For those who are wonder, Fauziah Ibrahim was back hosting Weekend Breakfast with Johanna Nicholson.

Ugh. Worst team.

To be fair Johanna did sometimes inject some humour when presenting with Andrew Geoghegan. However, both are more suited to presenting news bulletins.

I am a fan of Kath simply because she is clearly a vastly superior presenter and an intelligent and excellent interviewer. She is charming and funny, and her natural personality shines through ..... what you see is what you get. If the program is flagging, you can rely on Kath to revive it. I just think the ABC is not using her talents to their full potential, and she was treated appallingly last year when she "lost" the hosting of The Business.
Fauziah's statement at the start of the program that she and Johanna were now back together for the year smacked of triumphalism and stuck in my craw!

Kath now appears to be only reading the News on Friday afternoons (12- 4) … hardly enough for a full-time employee? I just hope she takes time to mull over her options … she does tend to wear her heart on her sleeve … one of her many endearing qualities.
The older guard of Trioli, Fanning, Sales, Crabb are now only casual bit players in the ABC’s female army of presenters. Kath is still very much a daily working journalist/presenter, and is in the vanguard of the next wave … she has been the understudy for too long!

because she’s not. lol that’s been explained a few times now.

what options? over whether to take casual shifts at the ABC? nobody’s holding a gun to her head.

She literally reads the script on the autocue.

Kath may also be doing behind the scenes stuff. Just because they are seen on air once a week doesn’t mean they do other roles.

Fanning is apparently going to play a role with Queensland election coverage, and presents the weekend QLD bulletin. Ellen also did the 2020 US election, so they may use her again.

As for Crabb, her main role is Chief Writer for ABC Online, so she isn’t seen on air that often. She has also been doing a show at the Adelaide Fringe.

People forget that women in the media (or any job really) can be working mothers. They often prefer to have the flexibility of working part time which lets them spend the time they need with family.

In my workplace, weve had women who were full time go part time or job share in the years when their children were young. Some continued part time but most went back to full time later. They’re just lucky this workplace is flexible.

JPA & J Bar, thank you both for your thorough explanations re part-time women employees of the ABC … having just joined this forum I was unaware of previous discussions on this topic. I do realise that many of the women are working mothers and are employed on part-time contracts. So, is Kath a full-time employee or not, because according to her Linkedin profile she is FULL-TIME!
When the ABC staff cuts were announced in the middle of last year (resulting in the demise of Andrew Probyn), Kath was simultaneously “removed” from The Business, a hosting position she had held for over two years. She clearly felt her position was vulnerable … enough to then post her profile on Linkedin, advertising her credentials for a job. Her profile states that she is currently employed by the ABC, from April 2015 - present (9years) Full-Time.
There were times last year when she appeared to be full-time … at one stage I recall her being on our screens for 8 days straight …sometimes two different roles in one day, either hosting The Business, The Drum or News reading. In addition, she filled in on Weekend Breakfast and Radio National on a couple of occasions. I can’t think of any other woman employee who is asked, and is capable of, performing such a variety of roles. And, as you suggest, she could be also doing off-screen work … Kath did start her TV career as a producer.

Most likely doing behind the scenes work is the most logical explanation to her being full-time. She could of also forgotten to change her Linkedin profile?

Also a tip of advice, maybe try separating longer posts into paragraphs, to make it easier for others to read?

Why is this so important to know?

You don’t know when that was last updated or is still current. But again, why does it matter?
