Flashback to 1999
After last nights severe storm that went through Newcastle with a few very close lightning strikes to the Belmont North DTV & 2HD Translator site, including a short power outage from one said strike, 2HD on 90.5 is dead as a Dodo this morning, all DTV is working though.
Triple M taking network regional feed this morning. Lazy programming.
Meanwhile NEW is live and local.
If only being local meant having a decent playlist/format.
Must be the first time Newcastle has taken the Albury feed in quite a while?
Iāve been thinking about that. We took it during the cricket in 2017/18 as I was panelling it locally (we didnāt trust the feed because not everyone was on Zetta so we had panel ops for cricket and football until they were). Yes, I pulled faders down for breaks etc.
We were told cricket would commence at 10am on the feed but when we went to ABX it was music until 1030. So we adjusted and joined network at 1030 from then on ![]()

They took network after Nix locally this afternoon as well.
I have so many funny stories I could tell about the footy and cricket panelling - maybe one day.
One I will tell - after network NRL 2MMM was supposed to send music to network until next top of hour, but often (quite often) they didnāt.
One night I waited 10 seconds, no music, so started playing songs off hotkeys. I was minding my own business when Put Down That Weapon came flying over the network feed (which I left faded up) scaring the absolute SHIT out of me. After that, I had the fader on Preview all the time ![]()

Any next moves in Newcastle radio for you? Would you jump over to help BOG there?
While I would never say never, I was offered a full time role in the aged and disability sector a few weeks before being sacked from MMM.
If there is a weekend role somewhere in the region Iād be happy to chat, but my preference has always been to be ābehind the scenesā because Iām quite pedantic with getting everything perfect.
Programming seems to be getting lazier every year at SCA unfortunately.
I remember last year Triple M Newcastle were local from sun up to sound down over this period.
It seems like thereās been a slight change to NewFMās positioner. Theyāre now saying, āNewcastleās Best Music Varietyā.
Not bad, they could branch it out to also include Newcastleās Best Variety of Breakfast Show Hosts - damn they have a lot of people in and out.
Lots of comments asking to bring Nick back, not sure if they will be deleted soon.
Also I wonder how different the show will be being broadcast across the state.
Not going to happen. The place has cut almost half of its staffing level since 2020.
For the record on this forum, the reggae pirate station on 89.3 FM is broadcasting from very close to 161 Maitland Road Tighes Hill, somewhere very close to that vicinity.
Might be coming out of the TAFE, it might be being used as a front to hide it?
nothing at the tafe, its within 50m of 161 Maitland Road. I have a portable radio I used a long time ago with a de-soldered antenna. So you can easily find a low powered FM transmitter by listening to the audio while going for a walk.
If you walk across the road towards the TAFE it fades out.
Itās not the pub because it fades out on the other side of that. Itās pretty strong in Tighes Terrace⦠but if I go towards the park it fades out again.
Might be at one of the student accommodation places around there, would be funny if itās hidden in the bell tower at the church on the top of the hill.
Wish I had some time to do some investigating with some of my signal measurement equipment.
Looks like marketing department failures across the board right now.
Zero social media posts on the Hit/Triple M Facebook pages since last year.
And heard the latest NEWFM new comp, itās not āDonāt Miss the Boatā for once, this time, itās āDonāt Miss the Shipā.
Same lipstick, different pig. Another self-serving promotion to get management a free cruise most likely.
I can even get it at Charlestown⦠itās strong around Hamilton and Broadmeadow too⦠perhaps thereās more than 1 transmitter⦠??
Digital manager Bec West was sacked along with Gilly, Snooze and myself back in November.
