You’re damned if you do, you’re damned if you don’t.
I honestly don’t know how you would bring all the differing brands/cultures into one cohesive network.
I’ve been toying/mocking with some ideas of using the focus of ‘nz’ in all of the branding. NZBC makes the most sense but I’m unsure of any other names to use.
What do we think TVNZ 1 will look like - radio with pictures? A well resourced Checkpoint on TV/radio/online instead of the tv newshour?
I imagine you threw out this idea pretty quickly…
Kinda symbolic thought, I have a feeling it will be a bit of a mess if it goes forward, especially for the first few years.
Haha Looks similar to The Project’s mock last night before interviewing Andrew Szusterman
Like your mocks btw @NaruTVMock! It is hard to think what they might call it besides NZBC or Newssomething …
Newssomething… now there’s a brand!
Can’t see the news hour going any time soon.
I’d love to see newsnz. mocked up.
I’d like them to go down the Irish route maybe, something which is fully in Maori, then abbreviated. (In saying this, it would annoy a small minority of white NZ for reasons?? They can always tune into Mediaworks.)
Here’s a few based ideas, some based on my (very, very basic knowledge) of Maori, mainly using Maori Dictionary (Most likely will butcher all of these, sorry), along with some English ones.
- RTI - Reo Terewhina Irirangi o Aotearoa (Television Radio NZ)
- RIT - Reo Irirangi Terewhina o Aotearoa (Radio Television NZ)
- PA - Paho Aotearoa (Broadcasting NZ)
- PTIA - Paho Terewhina Irirangi o Aotearoa (Television Radio Broadcasting NZ)
- RTA - Radio Television Aotearoa
- NBC - New Zealand Broadcasting Corp. (If, for some reason, they missed out the Z)
- ABC - Aotearoa Broadcasting Corp. (Because two clearly isn’t enough)
Maori is difficult because there are various words for each depending on the context, but I tried my best. Let me know if I’ve butchered anything, or if you agree/disagree with me.
You’re probably on the right track, given the Govt Agency changes prefer the Te Reo brand over the English one.
I wonder if it could be shortened to Paho? It might work better branding-wise.
I recently received an email from the Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA); this was in regard to the review of free-to-air television classification labels and timebands, which has just been completed.
In August 2018 the BSA consulted with the public to seek feedback on a range of potential changes to timebands and classifications on free-to-air television. I took part in an online survey, and the team received a wide range of submissions and feedback from audiences across New Zealand, including a submission from me.
Here’s a full set of what the new free-to-air classifications look like (replacing the G, PGR and AO classifications).
Three Life to close. With The Edge TV to return and Mediaworks to launch The Breeze TV
A year and a half before pulling the plug on a TV channel, I think that’s a record even for MediaWorks!
More cost-cutting is it? No buyers on the horizon? Eep.
Speaking of +HR=E, any updates on who’s purchasing it…?
So when Three is eventually sold, and it splits from the radio network, what will that mean for Edge TV and Breeze TV? seems temporary…
Exactly my thoughts so three life is to be replaced with 2 music channels because low ratings ok so the edge & the breeze tv channels will get more viewers than three life
& what are the ratings for bravo
I thought if there is no buyer for three then it’s to close I’m so very confused
Not that Breeze & Edge TV is a terrible idea (probably will do better than Three Life) but it was only October MW TV is announced for sale saying TV is now in a place where it can be separated from radio and outdoor.
How will this be being pitched to potential buyers? Two music TV channels with nothing at all to do with brand Three?
Or has the interest dried up and now they’re undoing the MW TV/radio split ?
Could be strategy… slowly erode/devalue the TV arm until it’s cheap enough for the Radio arm to take over…
By June, Bravo +1 becomes More FM - TV
By July, +HR=E +1 becomes The Rock TV
By October, Bravo becomes Mai FM - TV
By the end of the year, +HR=E becomes Magic TV!
(Tongue, firmly in cheek)
You’re forgetting QMS! Imagine a 24/7 live feed of different billboards around the country! And QMS+1 of course … you wouldn’t want to miss a second.
