New Zealand TV

I notice on Freeview online guide that Spartan: New Zealand v Australia will premiere on TVNZ2 this Saturday (January 4) at 7pm. Is this the second season of Australian Spartan which aired recently on 7mate in Australia (and got very low ratings) or is it an entirely new show altogether?

It is Australian Spartan Season 2.

First season didn’t rate well here either I guess based on the Saturday timeslot during summer.

I did notice a small number of Kiwi teams in season 2. Perhaps that explains why the show was renamed by TVNZ to attract more viewers.

Yep.

There will only be a 6:30pm broadcast of Sky Sport News going forward from Monday 13 Jan, so no 7am or midday broadcast.

Then what is the point of having a Sports News Channel, might as well close the channel completely. It was nice having a morning show on Prime albeit only sports but it did add something different to the other networks morning shows.

Very True.

There should be more than one bulletin being produced by Sky for this channel. Especially when the bulk of it is originating from other countries. I can’t imagine Fox Sports Australia’s reporting of rugby union or NZ cricket comparing to any perspective Sky’s team might have on it.

Any updates on the Three situation? Is it likely that Seven will buy?

TVNZ needs to replace all of their voice over artists. Dunno about anyone else but they’re all starting to get annoying and their deliveries a bit piss poor.

Remember the days when TV One and 2 just had one voice over and they were dedicated to one channel. Now it’s all over the place.

Also screening on TVNZ2 on weekends at 4.35pm as well. It’s rare to have a reality show airing every day of the week.

I thought this week would see the return of the late news on both networks but doesn’t seem to be the case. Usually Three would bring back Newshub Late but it returns next week along with its 4:30 bulletin with TVNZ still hiatus until the following week. I cant recall a summer where the late news has been off until mid January or maybe times have changed.

It often depends when and how the weeks fall in relation to Christmas and NYD.

TVNZ used to bring back Tonight in a shorter 15 minute edition for two weeks before going back to half an hour but haven’t done that for a couple of years.

That makes sense but I wish there late news bulletins started again tonight. I can remember those 15min Tonight updates, although short they did provide news late at night. I guess paitence until regular transmission in 2 weeks.

Te Karere is also on break until the 13th January. I am sure it usually stays on air all year round unless anyone can confirm it usually takes a break.

Quite surprised it isn’t on air, I assumed it would continue right through. If Māori Televisions Nightly News Te Ao can air year round, then I don’t see Why Te Karere can’t.

Te Karere is funded by Te Mangai Paho isn’t it? Would that have anything to do with it? But year I always thought it carried on through summer.
