New Zealand TV

Last I looked they had a fair few of their international shows on too

It has a pretty decent range of content

I agree. Despite there being many cultural similarities between the two countries, the TV landscapes in Australia and New Zealand are very different. What works over here doesn’t always go down so well on the other side of the Tasman and visa versa, as we saw when Paul Henry hosted Breakfast on Ten several years ago!

Someone should mock a 7 inspired 3!

Doesn’t sound like Seven buying MW TV is a done deal.

The Australian: CBS eyes MediaWorks’ broadcaster

Anyone subscribe to The Australian?

Doesn’t have many facts, just rumours really, with CBS apparently interested while Seven was a possibility as is/was apparently Nine.

ViacomCBS snatching up FTA broadcasters in UK and Australia so wouldn’t be shocking if they bought 3, especially as it’s the only real commercial network in NZ. Prime doesn’t seem like a proper network.

I could actually see the 7 brand Making its way to NZ

I think the arrogance of 7 wanting to have a Tasman brand of 7 will lead them there

And whilst I appreciate 3 has more brand equity from 7, i can also kinda see the novelty of an Australian tv network brand launching in NZ being a bit of a thing too.

There have been dozens and dozens and dozens of tv brands that launch in markets with zero equity that go on to become a thing

I could see sunrise piped in 4am-7am, then “sunrise NZ” from 7am-9

And also “7 NEWShub”

That’s impossible since NZ is two hours ahead of AEST. So it may be “Sunrise NZ” from 7am-9am, then Sunrise from Sydney from 9am to 11am.

Or a simulcast of the Aussie Sunrise with local news updates similar to what Perth gets.

Prime NZ was close (apparently) to being called Nine NZ when Nine AU purchased it at the end of 2001 but it never went through.

We did get Today, Nine’s 11am news, ACA plus a whole lot of Nine stuff (Footy Shows, Backyard Blitz, etc etc) so it virtually was all in name only.

Yes I recall.

How are 3’s ratings?

I’m
Not sure or the legacy brand and how much goodwill and value it has

When CBS bought 10
In Oz - people said “change it to CBS” but 10 is a much loved network with 50 years of history ake so
E legendary aussie shoes tied to its brand. It’s ratings are not massive now - but the goodwill and affection is there

It would have been folkish to introduce a massive american brand and kill 10

So it may be foolish to introduce 7 and kill 3. I’m not sure or the pulse of the NZ market. Something tells me it almost be a good thing ?

This sums up 3 as well. And actually ratings wise they’re not too bad on certain nights. Demos they still pull well. Total people a write off but always is for them.

They didn’t buy Prime, it was a programming-supply deal (quasi-affiliation) with the option to buy if successful.

But yes, it was

Ah shoot. That’s right.

Average audience 5+ in Oct for The Project was 152,700 vs Seven Sharp’s 473,900. :open_mouth:
Seven could put Home & Away at 7pm & it would probably rate as high, if not higher than the Project

Three is piloting a new panel comedy show next week. The end of 7 Days?

Any more details about it… what’s it called?

No not at the moment. A panel of four I’m pretty sure. Laura Daniel and Ben Hurley are in it.
