Kidzone will no longer be available on SKY or Igloo after 30 April - so we’re creating a special ad free Kidzone destination on TVNZ OnDemand for NZ’s littlest viewers.

MediaWorks partners with NBC to turn channel FOUR into Bravo.
MediaWorks and NBCUniversal International Networks have announced their joint venture to transform channel FOUR into entertainment-lifestyle brand Bravo in July.
Bravo New Zealand will focus on design, food, glam and pop culture, including shows such as Million Dollar Listing, Top Chef and The Real Housewives.
Story co-host Duncan Garner made a red-faced apology to viewers on Wednesday night after the show’s segment on nude dining showed a close-up of genitalia.
The 7pm current affairs sent reporter Lachlan Forsyth to cover a stunt where radio station The Edge hosted a night of nude dining at a Hamilton restaurant.
Things went awry when they crossed live to the restaurant and a naked waitress walked in front of the camera, providing viewers with a close-up of her crotch.
I always forget how horrendous the 2005 look was (the second in the video). Across the entire channel they went from having something okay/passable to something that would look toxic even on community TV.
And neither did Suzy earlier on - but back then Prime News was still being produced in Australia - you can see they fixed that right up once Sky News moved production to Auckland in 2006 (when Sky NZ bought them).
And agreed with that 2005 look… Prime really did look like a dog’s breakfast for that period after Nine dropped their potential joint-venture deal with them like a stone. There probably wasn’t much care back at Prime in AUS about them too, especially seeing they were likely still reeling from their dud Argentinian investment too.
Yeah, I think that Prime NZ used a general On-Air Presentation package that used many elements of Nine’s look at the time as well.
Mind you, Prime NZ isn’t the only international station that has used the old 2004-06 National Nine News look. I remember @pelican saying on the old forums that EMTV in Papua New Guinea also used (and possibly still does use) those old news graphics from Nine.
Yep, Prime pretty much became a Nine affiliate when it purchased it in 2002. They broadcast Today, National Nine News (the bulletin before Today at 6am AEST), the 11am bulletin all live as well as A Current Affair for a time (delayed). In addition to that, the likes of RPA began being broadcast as well as Backyard Blitz, Burke’s Backyard, Getaway and a lot of Nine’s library content. In addition, they latched on to a US deal Nine must have had in place to get the Star Trek (Enterprise?) from that era.
It came with a lot of promises but it never made a dent on the incumbent networks. Today stayed on the air until well after the ownership ended. Until 2008 or 2009 IIRC.
EMTV Bulletin from yesterday. They still use the N9N theme from that era.
Not anymore I’m afraid. On my last visit in 2013 I noticed National EMTV News had introduced that new look, which is actually quite impressive for something out of PNG. They were using the 2004 National Nine News graphics as late as 2011 though.
Despite that, they are still using the idents Nine made for them in 2004, which can be seen in the final seconds of this shoddy and dramatic promo which inexplicably uses the ABC Election theme.
It’s not great but it happily targets a niche. It’s not setting out to be a big network and is happy enough being slightly boutiques/quirky. The CBS distribution deal has given it a wee bit of starch.
