I think that price is so high you might as well let Sky Sport be the broadcaster.

Well they don’t have the rights? And this is a new revenue stream for TVNZ. I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make.

Most people thought the pass was going to be closer to 100 bucks.

I think its a good price point. In 2026, $45 isnt a lot considering its a month long tournament. Avid fans are definitely going to subscribe. I dont think its a barrier either for those just interested in the spectacle of the one in four yearly event

It’s definitely a premium pricing but it makes sense considering all the NZ games are free to air anyway (which takes care of the casual audience) so they can more easily charge the mega football fans for the full package.

The 2019 Rugby World Cup via Spark was 100 bucks if memory serves and was widely acknowledged as a shambles

The Broadcasting Standards Authority will be scrapped in favour of having the media self-regulate, Minister for Media and Communications Paul Goldsmith has confirmed.

So instead of properlly regulating internet, we’ll not regulate anything… do we even need a Government any more?

Easier for them to just scrap it entirely rather than properly put in the time, money, and effort it would take to update it for the streaming age, the National way.

Feels like this move is more to protect The Platform? Maybe it’s just me.

The BSA has been out of date for about 15 years -I’m unconvinced axing it entirely is the right answer but I do think the likes of The Platform can’t really be regulated either given we (the world) have allowed the internet to be the Wild West.
