Has anyone confirmed where Three NZ playout has been outsourced to?
One of my industry contacts mentioned Red Bee?

Singapore I believe.

Thanks, Red Been Singapore?
Can’t find a media release anywhere.

More reality garbage. This wouldnt have happened under the RNZ TVNZ merger,

Singapore? Now I’m thoroughly confused. This video seems to suggest it’s played out from London (hence the BT Tower caption)

But a guy in the comments, who appears to have worked at TV3, reckons it’s now done from WBD’s centre in Sterling, Virginia. (He says DC but it’s actually in Virginia.) Unless the signal is perhaps routed through London somehow? Again, I’m completely baffled. Perhaps @TVHead or @KICK-IT might know?

Wouldn’t have a clue!

Companies do all sorts of “hubbing” to save money.

Running a NZ TV network from the US or Through London is a new or. However!!

Thanks for the reply! I know a lot of networks use central playout centres now, often in countries thousands of miles away from where they broadcast to! But I’m baffled by this TV3 thing. I asked you because being in the industry, I wondered if you had any inside knowledge. But anyway…

On a completely different note I know CNN used to (and probably still do) control most of their output from Atlanta, even when it was presented from, say, London or Hong Kong. And this has been going on for decades! Long before the cloud… anyway we’re going off topic now so I’ll shut up. :innocent:

That makes sense - as CNN is based in Atlanta and most of the conte t is produced out of that city.

Three NZ is not based nor is most of its content from London or DC.

Although I guess it really makes no difference to if 7 Mate Townsville comes from media hub Campbelltown, NSW or three NZ from DC, USa

Makes no difference if signals and content is played from a computer 2 doors down or 2 continents away

USA salaries are much higher than NZ salaries. They must save money on not having to double up on tech

Just to muddy the waters further, there’s a gig in London that includes WBD’s Nordic channels. No mention of anywhere else… it’s likely those London colour-bars were just a feed/link to wherever +HR=E is trafficked through (which I think was speculated at the time?)

Three playout from USA (if confirmed) possibly via BT Tower before routing to NZ on existing circuits? This being baseband would suggest final transmission ASI multiplexing may still be done locally in NZ, possibly through a NZ data centre before on-pass to FreeView/Kordia? If baseband, why still use BT tower and expensive SDI circuits? Thought using something like SRT for studio contribution links would be more economical?
This of course all falls over if undersea cables get cut, surely WBD would have diversity fulltime to cover?

Looks like for the second year running, no NZ TV networks will be broadcasting the Sky Tower NYE fireworks. Nor even TVNZ (which did NYE specials airing the Sky Tower fireworks in recent years).

Somehow 1News on YouTube have a live stream set up for the fireworks tomorrow night. But you’ll need internet access to stream it.

The fireworks soundtrack will be synchronised on More FM Auckland.

To be fair though, most Aucklanders can probably see it where they are, and the rest of the country couldn’t care less. It probably doesn’t make much sense to broadcast it anyway, it’s hardly had years of tradition behind it like the coathanger sparklers over the ditch.

That sucks actually.

Surely this could’ve just aired on broadcast? Can’t imagine it would’ve been too hard to just show as went to air online. Better than nothing :man_shrugging:t3:
