I imagine brand naming for the relaunched News service and multichannels will be similar to Seven, like how their News Service is branded as “7NEWS” on-air, but is refered to as “Seven News” verbally or in written form, or like how the Network is refered to as the “Seven Network” rather than “7 Network”.
It’s interesting that Ten appears to be going down the numerical route after having basically the same logo design template since 1991! I wonder how they’ll approach the new design, as Seven, Nine, and the ABC’s logo are iconic, memorable and timeless to Australian viewers.
Personally, I’d say for them to use the current numerical “10” they have used since 2014 if they want to get familiarity with current viewers, but very excited to see what they have designed!
All of this looks to me like Ten moving towards - well, Seven and Nine to be exact. Which is what they should have done years ago. A turn towards being more locally branded, channel numbers, maybe more local news.
We don’t need a clone of Seven or Nine. Ten was never better than when they were doing their own thing- innovating, taking risks and catering to an audience that was being neglected by the other two because they’re too interested in cannibalising each other.
Agreed! If 10 News First eventuates, it would be a major shakeup in the name of news services in Australia e.g simple named 7 News, 9 News, ABC News etc. Although, it’s not definite, 10 News First sounds oddly American. What’s next, 10 24/7 Action News?
Really? I would’ve thought the possible rebrand of One & Eleven signals Ten following the trend of other networks by aligning their multichannels with the network, but moving away from “channel number” brands to something that would be a bit friendlier to a possible transition to online-only services in the future.
I agree that Ten needs to be more locally branded with possibly more local news though.
Although I agree we don’t need Ten becoming a clone of Seven/Nine, surely even the most ardent Ten fans have to admit that one of their biggest mistakes was not investing more in news and the online/digital space when they were doing quite well some 10-15 years ago?
Only now are Ten catching up to the other networks (along with the other predominantly online-only media companies that have popped up in recent years) and even then, there’s a few ideas (eg, Ten Daily instead of a Ten News website) I’m still not sure about.
No argument there. There’s a glaring gap in the market for late news. Ten management was incredibly stupid to abandon late news after they’d owned it for years. I’d love to see them offer a mid evening or late night news service again.
I meant channel numbers as in 1 and 0, like the numbers 7 and 9. And I meant imitating its rivals by basically carbon copying them - 10 Boss, 10 Peach, 10 News, etc. It’s all very Seven and Nine. And it’s not a bad thing.
