‘Future in limbo’ huh?
Basically it’s up to Fremantle to find a UK broadcaster. If channel 4, ITV or even the BBC are not interested then it’s time has come to an end.
So what’s happening with Home & Away? I’m assuming it’s safe as Seven still invest a lot into the show.
I assume as long as it’s on the main channel and still doing decent numbers it will be fine. It’s hardly in the position Neighbours is in when it relies so heavily on the money from the UK screenings.
Thats an interesting question - supposedly Neighbours outrates H&A in the UK. If Neighbours gets the chop (at least in the UK), you’d have to think H&A might be on shaky ground there too
Wonder if a streamer could pick it up?
I don’t see a soap running on a streaming platform though. They like their short-run drama series.
H&A does really well on catch-up here and it’s sevens only drama mostly.
Also added with the fact it’s on the main channel which returns a profit in Australia, unlike 10 who sell $10 ad buys on Peach for Neighbours. Seven also invest more money as its in-house produced unlike Neighbours as well.
From my understanding Seven invest heavily in Home & Away. So it’s rather cheap programming for Channel 5 to show, unlike Neighbours where Channel 5 pick up the bill for the show.
I don’t think I can see Ch 4 or ITV picking up the bill for this show. Unless 10 want to invest more money into it again.
Does 10 have any more money?
- Every headline on every website is a clickbait headline - that’s the whole purpose of a headline
- The headline also asks whether there will be a lifeline
- 10 saying they want to keep the show is not saying the show will keep going. If there isn’t another broadcast partner willing to foot the bill the show is done - it’s out of 10’s hands
- I would bet money on the fact neighbours is done. As sad as that is
It won’t be 10 that give the money. If anything it will be CBS Viacom (which is unlikely) or small chance of a Victorian Gov grant… though also unlikely.
You’re saying axed for an Aussie show when it’s only the UK portion of the decision. (Which yes they foot most of the bill)
I agree it’s on tender-hooks but I disagree with the way you report it and that is my right
You can put your spikes way mate.
Sorry, I didn’t realise I wasn’t allowed to have my opinion when you’ve expressed yours about something I’ve written.
I apologise for not understanding my place.
@blackbox We’re the UK rating-numbers you reported correct for lunchtime and 5.30pm? It was reported that it was rating closer to 1.3 million?
Andrew called it back in December.
Do we think the show is a victim of the times considering the lack of diversity in the cast and the racism controversy last year involving Shareena Clanton and Meyne Wyatt? I haven’t watched for decades but I know they’ve experimented with casting over the years. The core cast, however, is still predominantly white anglo and not at all representative of suburban neighbourhoods in Australia or Great Britain.
the situation may have changed in recent years but in the past the cost was shared 50:50 between Seven and Channel 5.
I’ve updated the article to make that clearer – those ratings were what it was getting in overnight figures when the decision was made to move it and did not include catch-up.
Admittedly it was confusing
whilst neighbours isn’t axed here in Australia …YET. if another broadcaster cant be found by august then neighbours will no longer air here in Australia
And not to harp - but the show is axed. That is a fact. 5 have axed it and unless a deal can be done it’s gone… this is not 10’s decision as they have put in all the money they are willing to invest.
Without the catch-up those UK audience numbers are very worrying. Where have the viewers gone?
