Neighbours

That’s assuming Prime Australia don’t remove the Thursday episode.

You make a valid point though.

If Amazon Aus continue on Thursday it’ll only take a month to catch up to the UK and if Aussies want the latest episodes they can watch on Amazon.

I am curious to see if this is just for 10 or if its for all territories and just hasnt been announced yet, but does sound like it may just be 10

If an episode is being dropped from both there could be a good explanation.

When they relaunched, based on the output deal they reported, we thought they’d take two weeks off at Christmas every year. However, last year they did not have a two week break.

Maybe they’re just catching up now since they didn’t take a break last year and will only make a limited number of episodes as part of the contract.

How long is that contract with Amazon going to last?

Contract is two seasons of 200 episodes - currently in the 2nd batch of 200 episodes.

Episodes should run on screen until September 2025. Seeing that they start planning episodes 8 months before they screen, I think we should know by January if Amazon will extend the contract.

Don’t Ten have first-run rights in Australia? If so, Amazon Aus would have to reduce episodes or take a break as they wouldn’t be allowed to overtake Ten’s broadcasts.

Given Channel 5 were allowed to air episodes before 10 in 2022, I doubt they would care much if Amazon were ahead.

I think that 10 could be waiting until they find out if Neighbours will be renewed to determine whether it stays as a 3 day per week screening or 4 days a week

Possible, or they aren’t sure if it’s returning or not at this point, so they are trying to stretch the episodes out to the end of 2025 if needed.

If they leave it as 3 days a week, I worked out it would be 59 weeks from now which would have it end in the last week of November next year assuming it’s not renewed beyond next September. If it’s renewed if they have a 2 episode week on Christmas week, then they have extended it by 3 weeks, so given it’s not taken a break since returning, if no other changes occur assuming it reverts back to 4 days a week, then the current run would finish at end of first week in September next year.

But they’ve already said they are not doing this. It will revert to 4 days a week in 2025, so they’re basically cutting back two weeks of episodes.

So what’s everyone online saying?

Amazon are taking a 2 week break and 10 don’t want a break so they’re banking 8 episodes?

What’s been highlighted is that the contract is for 200 episodes per year. They didn’t take a break last year so they showed more than 200 episodes by the time the one year anniversary came around.

If it’s being renewed then why does it matter? Just keep it going? Doesn’t sound like good news is coming?

I guess it’s a matter of costs. They are only being funded for so many episodes per year. They have a contract to produce 400 episodes.

If they show them at the current rate then they would run out of episodes in August 2025. They would have to sign a new contract to produce more episodes to fill the gap.

We saw from social media this week, that at this stage they are writing episodes which will be filmed in December 2024 and screen in May 2025 on both 10 and Amazon Freevee. Keen fans reported that this would mean that they would have to drop teo weeks of episodes somewhere. They were assuming there would be a 2 week break at Christmas but maybe this is how they’re doing it.

But Amazon will have to take a break no matter what?

Why can’t we just keep to the same schedule then?

10 take The Bold and the Beautiful off for 2 weeks every year. What’s the difference?

But we don’t know what Amazon are doing yet. They might follow what Ten is doing.

Or they could air episodes overseas before us.

If they do this option, I doubt we will be able to see them at the same time on Amazon Prime, as it appears the contract says that they have to wait a week after the episode has been broadcasted on 10 before it can be made available for Australian’s to watch.

Actually by cutting down to 3 episodes per week between next week and 18 December, they bank 10 episodes, not 8. 3 episodes this month, 4 in November and 3 in December
