Odd one, itâs the original name and channel of The News with Brian Williams, Iâm guessing they didnât think a straight news show would work on MSNBC or he didnât want a partisan channel again.
MSNBC airs (relatively) straight news during the day so donât think that would have been the issue.
To be honest, itâs probably a better move for him. If Shep went to MSNBC, he would have been subjected to intense scrutiny/criticism for obvious reasons whereas being at CNBC will allow him to do his thing somewhat quietly

This sounds like a stepping stone. Get him in the NBC family without too much attention about his Fox past because itâs CNBC.
And then in a year or two when something opens up on NBC or MSNBC heâll jump overâŠ

NBC expands Today with extra content on Peacock.
Good luck. The program is hardly palatable in its 4 hour format so an all day option is even less appealing.

A channel has to be fit for purpose. If itâs a national 24-hour channel, youâd need dedicated centralized staff to oversee operations, cull reports from the sources you list above and produce clips. Otherwise, if itâs just a linear stream of rebroadcasts all day, how much better can it be than appointment viewing?
The only reason NBC can get away with doing this is because Today produce more than enough content unique to the Today banner to be looped 24 hours a day. Also, itâs why NBC have CNBC, MSNBC and NBC News Now as separate services.
