My Kitchen Rules

TONIGHT

The Russians dodged a cheating scandal but it wasn’t enough to avoid elimination and the girls were sent packing along with truffle farmers Henry & Anna. Meanwhile, besties Stella & Jazzey secured the last Semi-Final spot for 2018, impressing the judges with an inventive, fun and near perfect entrée and main.

THE CHALLENGE
Three teams have already made it through to Semi-Finals; three teams are still fighting for a spot - this is their last chance to advance. In an MKR first there will be a double elimination. Teams’ fate will be decided with a three course meal. Teams can choose the flavours and ingredients but judges choose the types of courses they served – a soup for entrée in 60mins, a roast for main in 90mins and a pastry for dessert in 30mins.

HENRY & ANNA Soup: Onion Soup with Truffle Cheese Toastie
Roast: Pork Belly Sunday Roast
Pastry: Custard Tart with Berry Compote

OLGA & VALERIA Soup: Borscht
Roast: Roast Duck with Cherry Sauce
Pastry: Paris-Brest

STELLA & JAZZEY Soup: Mexican Seafood Soup
Roast: Furikake Lamb Rack with Carrot Ginger Puree and Miso Butter
Pastry: Pear & Blueberry Pie with Espresso Cream

ELIMINATED TEAMS

Henry & Anna
Anna: “This experience has been unreal. Our whole lives Henry and I have had a bond that is pretty unbelievable to a lot of people and it’s gotten even stronger which I didn’t think was possible.”
Henry: “I wouldn’t have been able to do it with anybody else and wouldn’t have gotten this far. We had the best time, honestly. We didn’t win My Kitchen Rules but I think we’ve done Tassie proud.”

Olga & Valeria
Valeria: “I don’t think you’ve seen our very best.”
Olga: “Our dishes were beyond excellent. We’ve introduced Australia to Russian food.”

7.30PM WEDNESDAY ON MKR…

It’s the mothers vs the brothers in the first Semi-Final!
Manu Feildel and Pete Evans are joined by Colin Fassnidge, Karen Martini, Guy Grossi and Liz Egan in Kitchen HQ for the first Semi Final of 2018. It’s a battle of traditions as Italian brothers Josh & Nic take on Vietnamese mums Kim & Suong. Shocked that the Seven promos were all hyperbole

But as Henry told news.com.au after his exit from the show, the “scandal” was a beat-up.

Olga and Valeria were called cheats for serving pan-fried duck in the roasting challenge after they accidentally overcooked their roast duck. Do you think they cheated?

I wouldn’t call it cheating at all, to be honest. Olga and Valeria are wonderful people and have really high integrity and would never cheat. I think they made the best of a bad situation.

I won’t call Olga and Valeria cheated by pan-frying duck, it was just desperation.

How did all round 1 contestants get to the final 4? I think there were a lot better cooks in round 2. But hey…

Shame that the three best teams went up against each other last night for the one semi final spot.

Didn’t Pete say earlier in the series that Group 2 got better scores than Group 1 from the first round of instant restaurants to both groups when they met for the first time in Elimination House?

The irony.

That comment created something of a “class divide”, at least in the minds of Sonya and Hadil.

TONIGHT

Kim & Suong are the first team through to the 2018 Grand Final after the mothers “nduja’d” out the brothers with a specialty soup Pete called his dish of the competition.

THE CHALLENGE
Teams had to prove they were worthy of a place in the Grand Final by serving a knockout three course meal, with 90mins for entrée, 60mins for main and 30mins for dessert. Judges Pete and Manu were joined by Colin Fassnidge and guest judges Karen Martini, Guy Grossi and Liz Egan to taste and score each team’s entire menu out of 10. The team with the lowest total score would be eliminated.

7.30PM THURSDAY ON MKR…

Kim & Suong’s Grand Final opponents are decided!
Two of the competition’s most experimental teams face off but with only one spot left, dishing up food that splits the table is the last thing they need. It’s high stakes and high stress as funny girls Stella & Jazzey fail to laugh and lovers Alex & Emily keep fighting. Even the judges are up for a battle. Manu Feildel and Pete Evans are joined by Colin Fassnidge, Karen Martini, Guy Grossi and Liz Egan as the Grand Final line-up is revealed.

Josh and Nic said at the start of tonight’s episode that whichever team cooked their traditional dishes better and more consistently would win the semi final. Turns out that team was Kim and Suong who also committed less mistakes than the Italian brothers. Suong’s only blunder was to pour the whole pouch of tapioca into the pan to cook while making the layered cake. It resulted in the jelly being too firm and chewy.

Despite innovative ideas, urban foodies Stella & Jazzey were hampered by technical difficulties and have been eliminated. Alex & Emily’s Asian and Weis Bar-inspired menu scored high with the judges, including a perfect 10 from Pete, and the cocktail couple will now meet mums Kim & Suong in Sunday’s Grand Final.

“with emotions so raw, so real, they lead to the biggest, most explosive backstage blow up of all time!”

I give Seven a score of 10/10 for hype.

Unfortunately, they’ve been let down by a distinct lack of substance to back that up.

For that, I give Seven a score of 2/10.

Yeah, journalist Manu would say “where is the source?”

Classic :joy::joy:

Stella and Jazzey’s place in the semis was a waste, really. It was like they forgot everything they’d learnt to get there and cooked like the crappy teams eliminated in the first round of IRs. I’m sure Olga and Valeria would have put up a better fight.

As with previous Grand Finals, the other teams have all returned for the decider, with one notable exception.

MKR Winners Announced

Loved-up hospitality couple Alex & Emily were crowned My Kitchen Rules Champions for 2018 after delivering a fun, creative, five-course menu which peaked with a “theatrical, showstopping” dessert. It was a rollercoaster journey to the Grand Final for the experimental and often emotional duo, marked by three People’s Choice awards, two trips to Elimination House and first place in the Ultimate Instant Restaurant round. Their opponents, Melbourne mums Kim & Suong, drew on their Vietnamese heritage to produce a “sensational” and “flavoursome” menu but stress in the kitchen plus an overcooked dessert let them down and it’s the modern foodies who walk away with the coveted title and $250,000 to put towards their dream of opening their own venue.

Season 3: Leigh Sexton and Jennifer Evans (SA)
Season 4: Dan and Steph Mulheron (QLD)
