The Australian networks are entirely to blame for this predicament.
Oh definitely!
But I believe it’s too late to change that.
well welcome to the group of people who are giving network tv a wide birth we welcome you with open arms:P and i fully agree there is no alterative and i really hate relality tv esp this and mfs. and yes the australian networks are entirly to blame.
and thats a very sad fact . it is sad that tv is going down this path and this will eventually end it demise
I have a feeling Seven might try and ‘one up’ MAFS & Survivor by beginning MKR on Jan 28th. That is why they’re keeping their cards close to their chest
While it’ll result in it going up both the Australian Open and the tail end of I’m a Celeb, it’s probably a smarter strategy than going head-to-head against MAFS from the beginning
I have a feeling that’s exactly what they’re planning and they just don’t want to give the plan away to the competitors who might try something else to interrupt them.
According to The Sunday Telegraph’s interview with Sophia, Romel, Dan and Steph, MKR: The Rivals will premiere on Sunday, February 2 at 7pm, up against Australian Open men’s singles final and probably the grand final of I’m a Celebrity Get Met Out of Here.

Promos now say starting Sunday 2 Feb
That’s a bad move in my opinion. I can understand the show airing on that Sunday if it began on the previous Tuesday (like I suggested) for continuity purposes. However, Seven are doing an ‘aging’ show like MKR no favours premiering it against both the Australian Open men’s final which will likely feature one (if not two) of Nadal, Djokovic & Federer and the I’m a Celeb GF - a show viewers are already invested in
Are we sure about the date?
Sorry when was it?
I’m very confused at this point! Is this replacing the regular MKR Season? Or is this an addition? And what’s the deal with MKR POO? Is that an additional as well?
It’s just like a regular MKR but half the contestants are returnees. It’s just subtitled The Rivals. So MKR:The Rivals.
It’s unclear what’s happening with POO. It started out as a totally separate show but then there was a report that it would come under the MKR umbrella. So it might end up being MKR:Plate of Origin.
Ah right, thank you. It seems I have some reading to do on this thread
Here are the five challengers teams from House of Colin:
Ben and Vasil (bartenders from Victoria)
Jenni and Louise (mums from Queensland)
Sue-Ann and Sylvia (Malaysian-born friends from Victoria)
Kerry and Kaylene (sisters from WA/Queensland)
Mark and Lauren (brother and sister from Victoria)
For the first time in MKR history, it’s Chef vs Chef and House vs House, as five favourite teams go head-to-head with five new teams in the fiercest competition yet.
The Fans will live together and represent the House of Colin, while the Faves share digs and fight for the House of Manu.
Teams will first compete for their Houses in a series of Instant Restaurants, cooking under the guidance of mentors Manu Feildel or Colin Fassnidge , while Pete Evans dines as the impartial judge. At the end of the round, one team will be eliminated. Then, still competing for their Houses, teams take over real restaurants and try to avoid further eliminations. In the final round, the battle lines are blurred as the Houses crumble and it’s every team for itself.
As the competition progresses, the rivalry between Chefs and Houses heats up, with teams producing some of the most exceptional dishes ever served on MKR.
Format twists send strategy into the stratosphere and as friendships form, some bonds splinter while a hint of romance adds some spice.
Ultimately, only one team can be crowned MKR: THE RIVALS champions and win
$100,000. Will it be a Fan or Fave? You’ve never seen an MKR like this!
The teams doing battle in MKR: THE RIVALS are:
HOUSE OF MANU - FAVES
Dan & Steph, QLD – Married Couple
Jake & Elle, QLD – Brother and Sister
Jac & Shaz, QLD – Country Cousins
Roula & Rachael, VIC – Best Friends
Sophia & Romel, NSW – Tough Critics
HOUSE OF COLIN - FANS
Jenni & Louise, QLD – Mummy Bloggers
Ben & Vasil, VIC – Bartenders
Sue Ann & Sylvia, VIC – Childhood Friends
Kerry & Kaylene, WA/QLD – Ex-Army Sisters
Mark & Lauren, VIC – Poker Playing Siblings
I disagree with others I think launching against the Aus Open is a good idea!
I’ll wait and see how this series rates.
The promo’s are turning me totally off.
I’ve found this show to be watchable in the past when there is nothing better on and I’m prepared to be braid dead for an hour or so.
It’s always been contrived (and what “reality” show isn’t), but this year it looks like contrived squared.
It’ll either work well or sink.
My preference is always for new meat in this sort of show, and I’m not keen on recycling past contestants, who in many cases, we were just about sick of when their original series ended.
They’re about 3 years late with this refresh. If they really wanted such a revamp in format they should’ve done it a few years ago and incorporate it after the instant restaurant rounds.
Could’ve rejuvenated the show and prevented MAFS from beating MKR.
