Parkes Observatory was added to National Heritage List today in part because of the movie The Dish.

The observatory’s 64-metre radio astronomy telescope, famous for the pictures it beamed from man’s first walk on the Moon and for the movie it inspired decades later, today becomes the 118th site to be added to the National Heritage List.

“The Dish is part of Australia’s proud cultural and scientific history and to this day continues to serve as an important tool in our understanding of the universe.

Saw a promo for spy movie Tenet during Have You Been Paying Attention tonight (the movie even sponsored the show’s Rapid Recall segment). Opening nationally on August 27, it is the first major movie release since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Given Victorian cinemas are all closed under the current lockdown, who knows how long they will have to wait before they will be able to see Tenet on the big screen. The worst case scenario is that when Tenet eventually opens in Victoria, its run in other states will have finished, and cinema chains will be reluctant to start promoting it again just for a single market.

UPDATE:

Robert Pattinson is The Batman

Do they’re going even darker than the last series of movies? I used to be a big Batman fan but they’re losing me as a fan. I wish they’d gone a bit more light-hearted like the Thor movies.

Tenet that has been sponsoring HYBPA? in cinemas Thursday (except Victoria)

It will be a big test to see if audiences are ready to go back to the cinema

I saw it on the weekend. In a cinema that would normally sit 400 there were only 5 of us.

At the Cremorne Orpheum, owned by Mike Walsh, The Tenet is $27 for the 70mm print film sessions, and $24 for 4K Digital sessions. $24 appears to be the regular adult ticket price at the Cremorne Orpheum.

I’ve recently came across some LaserDiscs from my local Salvos store, I don’t have a player to view these but it’s still awesome to own them anyway.

Its $20 at the Palace in Brisbane for non-members - some sessions are sold out for 70mm (good news for the cinema) and the rest are “selling fast”.

Laserdiscs are an incredibly rare find in Australia - good pickup.

Any laser rot?

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet earned $2.5 million on its opening weekend at the Australian box office. I think it would have got $400,000 more if the Victorian cinemas were open at the same time. That second bump will have to wait.

Decent selection too
