I spy Crocodile Dundee (1986), Muriel’s Wedding (1994), The Castle (1997), and The Dish (2000). The only movie I can’t identify is the car cruising along the road in the outback.
Anybody Know The Name Of That Film?
At least the anamorphic print means that those large banners don’t obscure much detail.
Not me defending their existence.
Midday movies back on Seven.

Welcome back, Seven’s Midday Movies. You have been missed.
Yes, I know its only for three days while the Cricket Ashes finishes up on the Tuesday - and the regular programming starts the following Monday (i think).
Not often you see two all-time family classics on CFTA main channel in prime time and especially from the 1930s and 1970s, even if aired frequently, with Channel 9’s double header this Saturday of The Wizard of Oz followed by Willy Wonka. Love to see it!
It won’t come close to The Ashes, but could still catch plenty of viewers for a scene or two, if not longer. Might see unusually high “reach” figures for the films.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Universal Australia are sponsoring it for the “Wicked 2” release. Just need someone to show Disney’s “Return to Oz” (1985) and “Oz: The Great and Powerful” (2013) now. I’d guess “Wicked” will premiere on Seven (NBC-U) next year at the earliest.
I think it would be great to.see Return to Oz and Oz The Great and Powerful having some FTA screenings.
Looks like news at midday isn’t a priority. Should just keep the Midday Movie going and Winning Arvo at 2pm-4pm.
Wizard of Oz had a card in the opening credits thanking viewers “for nearly 40 years” (which would’ve been a restoration in the late 1970s), is this usually the master? Wonder if Nine are using an old tape? Would be interesting to see what Seven used a few years back.
I know it didn’t air on TV in Australia for many decades, same in the US and UK. Similar to the likes of Gone with the Wind (coincidentally released the same year 1939). Family have told me in the past they remember the re-release in cinemas and having to have an intermission.
It’s getting some comments on social media tonight, who also can’t believe the double-header.
Like the old Surgeon General’s notice, I remember every time I see 1989’s Bond flick Licence to Kill there’s an anti-tobacco disclaimer in the closing theme (via the USA government’s health department).

Does these caps help?
Then there was the 7flix promo in 2019.
No, because they’ve ended it just before
It otherwise does look identical though. Seven also cropped/zoomed for their promo like Nine did (as of course the film is only in pillarboxed aspect).
I would say Warners have mastered the print in circulation to all mediums that way, but not sure why they would keep ‘thanks for 40 years of viewing’ or change it to ‘85 years’. It was obviously from the late 70s when it was first restored, though some sources claim it’s a slight error and is actually from the 50th Anniversary re-master in the late 1980s. It’s since been restored and re-mastered numerous more times, including several ‘anniversary’ collections, last an 85th 4K UHD HDR edition a year ago in the US.
Because Nine’s WB airings the last couple of years all seem new since they got some rights back from Seven. Not just the quality and a few other specifics from the prints that differentiate, but there’s none of Nine’s ad break bumpers from their old master tapes (of which the network still airs several often on m/c though and I think mainly Roadshow and MGM which they haven’t received or bought new prints).
They just dug up the promo from two years back.
Nothing needs to be changed.
That’d be somewhat difficult, considering that is when the film was released in cinemas!
