Movies on TV

Continuing a related but seperate discussion RE: Harry Potter in the appropriate thread

I’ve been wondering for a while, now that Nine’s long-running output deal with Warner Bros expired, was re-negotiated and much programming decaying (with Seven picking-up a ton).

Whether Harry Potter could be next to jump ship?

Though (and someone may be able to answer) there might be a standalone deal just for HP, given how huge a franchise it is?

None the less, it’d be a big loss for Nine.

That link has been deleted. The promo is currently on top of 7flix Facebook page.

Just thinking it’s been a while since I’ve seen 2012 (2009) on television…

Many commenting on social media (particularly during Love Actually) about wanting the traditional “Die Hard” (1988) and “Home Alone” (1990) airings.

Ten had rights to both and regualrly aired them. Die Hard last year on Christmas Eve or thereabouts and Home Alone multiple times this year on Eleven.

But am wondering if Ten had a back-catalogue deal as part of the output deal, which was of course terminated, might explain things (rather than it being a seperate movie content deal as is often the case).

NB/
I mentioned Deck The Halls aired on Eleven the other night, that was actually produced by and copyright to Regency Enterprises, which Ten have a seperate deal with (via their distributors).

Therefore not exactly sure when the last standalone released 20C Fox movie aired on Ten.

Caps from promos for movies…

“For the first time on Seven”

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989):

Had a giant “7” logo out the front of the Griswold’s house as well.

Fred Claus (2007):

Nine used to have rights to both.

Warner Bros ‘Christmas’ opening logo - Fred Claus:

Also, a very rare scenario, an MGM released film but distributed by Warner Bros in Australia for DVD / digital / TV (hence giving Seven rights) - A Christmas Story on 7flix, end logo:

Weird seeing promos for Christmas Vacation on Seven, always been on Nine.

Oops

9Go! and ONE have the same movie scheduled, a day apart.

“48 Hrs” (1982).

•9Go!: Wed 3rd Jan
•ONE: Thur 4th Jan

Now, not sure if it’s a rights issue, as I know Ten and Nine share the Paramount back-catalogue.

But certainly a freakish programming clash!

I’d say Ten will have to amend, given they’re the night after, plus they’ve already aired it before - Nine’s listed as premiere

I could be wrong but isn’t the Ten/ One version the current affairs program from the US?

I was deferring to your expert knowledge. Can I still trust it?

No.

“48 Hrs” (1982) as I said is scheduled 9pm Thursday 4th Jan on ONE.

Paid presentation sneak peek for “Jumanji 2: Welcome to the Jungle” (2017) across Seven’s channels, airing for 7min, usually broadcast after a movie finishes. From Sony Pictures (Releasing) Australia.

You didn’t say what time it was on tho :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Cap from “Jaws” (1975) promo for Ch 7.

I’m guessing it’ll be the last time on Seven, before moving to Nine. Not just because the latter network now has a content deal with NBC Universal International, but because they already have rights to 2 and 3.

An analysis of Die Hard as a Christmas movie.

“Titanic” (1997) airs tonight on Ch 7.

Firstly, broadcast says over 4 hours on EPG, longest movie on TV of 2017, good luck!

Promoted as “digitally remastered” and “20th Anniversary”.

Wondering if that’s a version released on home entertainment or just Seven’s spin?

NB/
Viewers commented on social media last night, saying Seven had done something to “Jaws” (1975), alleging it was cropped or wrong aspect and less quality (despite also being promoted as “digitally remastered”)?

In fact, I swear Seven removed parts of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation on Christmas Night too when it aired. Like the scene between Clark Griswold and that young woman that he was flirting with while he was shopping and his son notices. I don’t know if I just missed it but I’m pretty sure I didn’t. Maybe it was because this scene is close to the start of the movie and Seven deemed it to risque to show at that time of night just after 7:00…

Yes, for classification, Seven removed:

•An ‘F-word’.
•A side-shot of a partially naked woman on a pool diving board, where the side of her breast is visable during Chevy Chase’s ephifany.

In order to bring the classification down from “M” to “PG” (Mild Violence, Some Coarse Language) for a 7pm broadcast.
