A great innings to Les and condolences to his wife Rosie. Les was actually 90 not 85 as widely misreported.
Shocked about Matthew Perryâs death. At 54 too? So young.
Iâm shattered about Matthew Perryâs passing. Itâs common knowledge that heâs had issues for quite some time but his Friendâs character was the main reason I watched the show and all the re-runs over and over again. Naturally funny, he was allowed to work with the writers on some of Chanderâs lines, something none of the other cast were permitted to do.
Gone way too soon.
Wow. When you first read these reports or see a name trending, there is a tendency to double check the sources, but unfortunately this is true. Chandler was one of the most iconic characters of television sit coms. RIP Matthew.
I am stunned. I, too, tried to look for a second source as I still have a distrust for TMZ but manâŚ
Shocking. So sad to hear this.
This I wasnât expecting , very sad news to wake up to.
There are so many Friends bloopers on line and I saw this one only yesterday. As you can see Jennifer breaks character first, followed by Lisa and then the others.
Expecting Friends âbest episodeâ reruns promoted for the next little while?
Gobsmacked when I saw the news, thought Iâd managed to miss it all morning but then realised itâd actually only broken that hour. When I saw Matthew Perry and associated dominating trends, I thought for a sec âwhatâs going onâ but then immediately knew it mustâve been the worst before I clicked and sure enough Echoing others, he had publicly revealed his demons with the bottle and pills coming to light especially recently with his autobiography and it was always so sad he claimed he couldnât recall anything from the final few seasons of Friends (and you also had those like Elizabeth Hurley laughing at how bad he was on-set, they did a forgotten early 2000s movie together, when heâd actually just been in rehab and most unwell which is a shame to read). But he lit up the room with his memorable character of the cherished sitcom and one of hardly any shows to span generations, a truckload of fans of all ages will be crying today, like JeepesCreepers points to arguably one of the main reasons viewers flocked to the show, even if he wasnât the âmainâ star or had the fame later in life like Aniston and Cox. RIP
I expect this to be top headline, at least the commercials tonight, given Australiaâs relationship with Chandler and one of the biggest TV shows ever, as well as front page (certainly partially) in at least the Sun and Telegraph etc tomorrow. Wonder if any pre emptions will be made (10 Peach âbest ofâ marathon tonight? Or one of his movies on another m/c or two?)
Also personally, while I did enjoy Friends and have seen countless episodes over the years, Iâm in the minority in that is was not my favourite show (not even close) but was on the otherhand an avid Seinfeld fan (I think many are very much for one or the other depsite wide-recognition of both shows and constant friendly wars over time of which was the biggest or best), Iâd even suggest his other works (while not a lot) particularly namely Fools Rush In, The Whole Nine Yards and to a lesser extent Three to Tango were really good, even if in part âvehiclesâ for him and we saw both a similar character-actor but also different acting-chops from the different genres and themes from him. However of course I realise Friendsâ global perpetual popularity and how beloved Perry was, anybody fan or not, would, with such calibre of a character and show.

update
Veteran entertainment scribe/correspondent the past decade in LA Michael Idato of Age/SMH has penned a piece the past half hour:
Not Miss Chanandler Bong
Adelaide AFLW captain Chelsea Randall and partner (and ex teammate) Marijana Rajcic have welcomed a new boy. The pair, who took part in The Amazing Race Australia in 2020, announced their engagement in March this year.
The news was also announced via loudspeaker to fans at this afternoonâs AFLW clash between the Crows and the Kangaroos at Norwood Oval.
I tuned-in to that via 10Play live streaming, as I wanted to see the latest news package, as always Bishop excells, it was a well-rounded, touching story, however she notably missed covering his other works (such as some films he starred in most noteworthy and these days considered a bit of a modern cult classic The Whole Nine Yards often aired on TV too), not that is was a major point though, will see if other networks mention.
Going to be hard to watch that one now for many people with Matthew Perry and Bruce Willis after the reports of Bruce and his deterioration in health also.
In Melbourne, HSV lead with a shooting (Matthew Perry death news 2nd - maybe saw what their rival was going with first), with GTV (perhaps unsurprising and somewhat romantic as original broadcaster) leading with the Perry news.
Good point, tragedies
Interesting, in Tasmania itâs only just appearing now about 5th.
Gaza, Protests in Aus about Palestine, the memorial service for the children killed in the shed fire in Vic last week, Federal Politics and now Perry just before the first break.
