The last King of Greece, Constantine II, has died at 83. The monarchy in Greece was abolished in 1973 and the royal family has lived in exhile.
The Greek royal family is closely connected to other European royal families. His sister Sofia married King Juan Carlos VI, so was the Queen of Spain until he abdicated in 2014. His wife Anne-Marie is the sister of Queen
Margrethe II of Denmark.
Constantine was the godfather of the UK’s Prince William. Showing how inbred these royal families are, King Constantine and King Charles III are second cousins because Prince Phillip and his father were first cousins. But Constantine was also a third cousin with Queen Elizabeth II because their great grandparents were siblings, the daughter and son of Queen Victoria.
