MasterChef Australia

In the promo they dont say shock elimination but suprise elimination as in that the contestants were unaware there was going to be a elimination that day.

Ohhh I took it as meaning someone unexpected goes. Well thatā€™s a relief then.

The promo showed that the contestants wore normal clothes to enter the kitchen, but were surprised to see five black aprons on display. Normally, if they faced elimination, they would be told by the producers to wear black T-shirts and pants.

There were 2 types of promos - the short ones during the program said ā€œshockā€ (but didnā€™t say which day) then the longer one at the end had Gary saying ā€œsurpriseā€ as in Tuesday was an elimination day.

Hopefully Tamara goes tonight. It really is time considering she has been in 8 eliminations.

Great to see Alla Wolf-Tasker on MC again, she dates back to S1 or S2

A great finals ep tonight, itā€™ll go down to the wire.

I did not expect Arum to go tonight. He was eliminated on overcooked duck breast and rubbery skin. Peter Gilmore reckoned Arum cooked the duck too early and rested the meat for too long, while Arum himself thought it was residual heat which continued the cooking when the duck was under the foil. Did he follow the resting process correctly? If yes then he was pretty unlucky.
Ben did yet another ice cream (the lavender flavour) and impressed the judges, and survived despite the shortbread crumb being undercooked. Sooner or later he would have to make a savoury dish.

Glad Arum left. His dishes were always such basic meat and 3 veg style things. I donā€™t know how he made it this far.

Iā€™m wondering how many more times we are going to have to watch Ben make ice creams? Come on its finals week! Heā€™s done so well most of the season but heā€™s not really showing much diversity anymore.

Totally agree. For anyone else, theyā€™d be complaining ā€œtheyā€™d seen it all beforeā€.

For some reason however Ben has got the ā€œElena editā€ from last season - strongly increasing throughout the season from a virtual nobody at the start, with overly positive feedback that isnā€™t really warranted. It wouldnā€™t surprise me if he won even. They obviously think heā€™s a strong narrating male to end up next to Karlie in the final.

Iā€™m sick of Ben and his ice cream dishes also,

The three judges plus past contestants Poh Ling Yeow and Georgia Barnes appeared at Brisbaneā€™s Regional Flavours food show at the weekend. Matt told The Courier-Mail that he wanted the 10th season to move away from unattainable culinary masterpieces in favour of home-style cooking, and was already discussing ideas with George and Gary.

Itā€™s a shame I didnā€™t go last weekend then

Only four contestants left and one of them gets less than 3 mins airtime. Ridiculous.

I think this is the first time in MasterChef Australia history that prep time for a service challenge was extended by 30 minutes because the four remaining contestants were nowhere near ready even after five hours preparing ingredients for their allocated dishes. Last weekā€™s service challenge mentored by Clare Smyth was hard but not as demanding as tonightā€™s challenge at Dinner by Heston at Crown Casino. I think all four of them were overwhelmed by the challenge of making food for 40 diners including the three judges. Tamara even had to leave out the onion in her grouper dish.
Benā€™s lamington dessert was certainly finals worthy and you could see his emotion when he was told he made the semi final, leaving the three girls to fight for the two remaining spots.
One thing I didnā€™t understand. When the contestants arrived at the restaurant, Gary said ā€œgood morningā€. Head chef Ashley stopped the contestants at 7pm and told them that they were not ready for service. The contestants were given five hours prep time so they would have started work after 2pm. What happened in the period between their arrival and food preparation?
Also, did anyone see the MasterChef billboard in the background when Ashley introduced the dishes to the contestants? That billboard was on top of one of the buildings on Flinders Street across the Yarra. Tonightā€™s episode was filmed in early May when the current season began airing on Ten. You can see a bit of the billboard from this photo, over the shoulder of Ashley and Matt:

I didnā€™t see the episode, but filming all that garbage before the actual cook gets underway could easily take 2 hours or moreā€¦

It was clear at the beginning of the ep

If you are talking about Diana. The reason they did t feature her further is because she wasnt panicking and stressed like the other three contestants. Not very exciting content to show.

Of course. They specifically gave him a dish where he could ā€œproveā€ how far he had come on his ā€œMasterChef journeyā€ and that he deserves his spot in the final.

I havenā€™t seen one of Benā€™s articles in ages - heā€™s always spot on.

If MasterChef were a restaurant, the dessert menu would have 50 pages and main course would be a choice between pork belly in broth or getting Maccaā€™s on the way home.

Iā€™m not sure I can take another year of parfaits and granitas and shiny balls that ooze 17 flavours when you crack them open.

Youā€™ll be even greater if you ditch the coriander ice-cream.
