10 are really milking it this past 18 months. First they extended the regular season last year (it felt like it went forever), then Junior, now this. It’s to much.
I look forward to the “Professionals” announcement this time next year.
Synopsis for this week’s challenges, branded Hottest Week by 10’s promos.
Tonight (May 24)
Invention Test returns. Contestants must choose from either a potato, broccoli, carrot, brown onion or zucchini to make a delicious dish featuring the vegetable of choice, but not necessarily a vegetarian dish.
Tuesday May 25
In today’s pressure test, it’s a fight to stay in the competition and four contestants must recreate a dish without ever seeing it. Guest chef is Clinton McIver, owner-chef of Amaru restaurant at Armadale in Melbourne’s east.
Wednesday May 26
The contestants must create a dish using only the 11 utensils in the mystery box. The dish can be sweet or savoury, with an open pantry and access to the garden.
Thursday May 27
The contestants must cook a dish using some of the hottest chillies in the world. The dish that best highlights the heat and flavour of their chilli will win immunity.
Lights, camera… start your ovens . Celebrity MasterChef Australia is coming soon to 10 and 10 Play on demand.
We’ve searched high and low for some of the country’s top celebrities with a passion for food, and are ready for their big break in the MasterChef kitchen. They may be the best in their business, but will they be the best in our kitchen?
A legendary sports person, an Aussie icon and a famous actor are ready to don a MasterChef apron and face the heat of the famed MasterChef kitchen. Watch this space as we spill the tea on more famous faces set to join the culinary fun.
Returning to the MasterChef kitchen are our esteemed judges Melissa Leong, Andy Allen and Jock Zonfrillo, as they prepare to put the stars through their paces.
Andy Allen said: “Melissa, Jock and I can’t wait to swing open the doors to the MasterChef kitchen and welcome these famous faces. It’ll be a multi-talented group who step into the kitchen, but will they be at the top of their cooking game?”
With their reputations on the line, this is one celebrity cooking competition you won’t want to miss.
Celebrity MasterChef Australia is produced by Endemol Shine Australia.
I reckon Celeb version might be alright, it’s just overkill having a long normal season and additional season in the year. They are killing the brand.
I’m wondering given the ratings drop this year if the long standard season of MasterChef has almost had its day after this year? Possibly MasterChef could continue but instead have two shorter themed style seasons at different times of they ear, each for 3-4 weeks. Last year viewers jumped at an All Stars but seems people aren’t as interested in long 3 months or so of going back to home cooks.
Knowing how the current season is performing + how Junior MasterChef went last year, I’d probably only expect lukewarm figures at best for Celebrity MasterChef Australia 2021!
Yeah there’s really only so much you can do to reinvigorate a format which has been on our screens for 12 years! Time for Ten to start working on a show for life after MasterChef, I think.
Interesting assessments of a show that last night won its timeslot and was the number one streamed show and continues to keep 10 competitive in its target demographics.
Celebrity editions while possibly diluting the format can bring in a new group of viewers who are particularly interested in one or more of the nolebrities, following them on various social media platforms. Usually these are on for a limited run with fewer weeks and fewer nights per week, most likely teamed with Bachelorette or something later in the year.
Ten should be planning for its retirement!
Sell off its programs to 7 - Survivor & Amazing Race, 9 - The Bachelor suite and I A C G M O O H, ABC can have The Project and SBS The Living Room…the rest can be cremated
It was back to fourth in it’s time slot last night (behind both realities and 730). On Mondays it just seems to get a slight boost because Have You Been Paying Attention follows it. It is significantly down on last season and it’s very rare that it actually wins it’s timeslot this year.
That’s true, but was it fourth last night? I thought it was third? Hard to compare when 7:30 is only a 30 minute program and MasterChef ran for 72 minutes last night I believe.
The show usually wins Thursday nights as #1 entertainment show with less competition and is still somewhat competitive in select demos.
That’s like saying that Big Brother doesn’t count as the same time slot because it ran 30 minutes longer. Nothing is in direct sync these days but regardless 3 shows that aired against it had higher total viewers.
I’m not trying to argue anything against the show - I’m a Masterchef fan. I’m just looking at how much it’s dropped from last year and am starting to think that themed seasons or something are needed to pull viewers in. The year on year drop shows that people are over the same old long season of new home cooks.
Sunday 30 May S13 E30 This elimination is played over two rounds. In the first round, contestants must identify the 14 game meats on display. The six contestants with the lowest scores will cook off in round two.
Monday 31 May S13 E31 It’s Second Chance Week in the MasterChef kitchen. Across the week, 11 previously eliminated contestants are back with not one, but two chances to get back in the competition.
Tuesday 1 June S13 E32 Renowned pastry chef Anthony Hart reveals his pressure test dish: chocolate oasis. The contestants have 2 hours and 15 minutes, plus a further eight minutes to plate up Anthony’s creation.
Wednesday 2 June S13 E33 This episode, the 10 returning contestants can choose between a clear mystery box where the ingredients are visible or a regular mystery box where the ingredients are hidden.
Thursday 3 June S13 E34 Four contestants are told they will have two-and-a-half hours to prepare a three-course menu. But the catch is that after each course is tasted, one contestant will be knocked out of the competition
This is the first time in MasterChef Australia history a whole week of challenges have been allocated for eliminated contestants. Previously they only had to take part in a one-episode cook-off for a spot to return to the main competition.
