MasterChef Australia

Shannon Martinez from Smith and Daughters in Melbourne (who appeared on the past two seasons of My Kitchen Rules) is special guest for tonight’s vegan mystery box challenge. According to Herald Sun, she even helped restocking the pantry with vegan and vegetarian ingredients for the episode.

I didn’t have a problem with Laura and thought she was being very supportive. No-one else came over and tried to comfort Sarah.

What I find really troubling this season is some of the negative commentary on social media, almost to the point of cyber-bullying directed at a few of the contestants. It goes totally against the spirit of MasterChef. Much of the commentary is bordering on being ludicrous and of course it is fuel for tabloid news sites to regurgitate ad nauseam and forms the basis of their click-bait stories.

Last night some people managed to get upset when judges mentioned as part of a compliment that Brendan was the ‘dumpling guy’ (he does own a dumpling restaurant) and then piled onto Laura demanding to know why the judges didn’t say anything about her pasta making preferences - yet they did! They somehow overlooked that her dessert was deemed one of the best by the chef who set the pressure test.

I also find that these people don’t seem to understand the concept of a reality TV ‘edit’ to fit a narrative for the night - we can’t have every contestant on screen for equal amounts of time every night.

This seems to be the age where audiences have lost a skill called “listening carefully”.

This article should appear in most News Corp papers tomorrow.
The changes means Monday’s service challenge episode will be the first affected. With the public not allowed to dine in, it will become a team challenge.

When a clip of the three judges calling people to apply for 2021 aired on Tuesday night, there were standing 1.5 m from each other.

In the first round of tonight’s immunity challenge, Simon, Reece, Jess and Poh had to create a delicious instant noodles dish in just 15 minutes. When Andy wheeled out a cart of instant noodles, there were a dozen varieties on display, but no IndoMie Mi Goreng.

Seriously? This is what people took out of tonight’s ep?

Great episode tonight. Loved the 2 minute noodle challenge. And Jess and Poh going head to head was good to watch.

It should provide click bait for a desperate website somewhere. Apparently, also, Any and Jock were “too happy” tonight.

Some keen viewers noted an “elbow shake” at the end that was apparently a nod to upcoming restrictions; yet failed to notice the other contestants hugging

It was a great episode but I don’t understand why all except Poh made chilli flavour instant noodle dishes.

Probably nothing to understand. Only 4 cooked. There’s a good chance that could happen. I use chilli in everything :yum:

Next week is Best Dish Week according to promos aired tonight. It will include the reveal of the greatest ever dish in the show’s history. It’s also the week when the COVID-19 lockdown changes would kick in.
EDIT 24/5: according to Holly Byrnes in the TV guide in today’s Sunday Telegraph and Sunday Herald Sun, only one person would go home this week (probably due to Ben quitting the competition), and there would be two opportunities to win immunity: on Tuesday’s pressure test and Thursday’s immunity challenge.

It was unusual to see Reece, Tracy and Emelia all overcooking their kingfish in last night’s elimination challenge. It was also also rare for Emelia to create a dish with faults. If the judges criticised Laura for halving her piece of fish, why didn’t they say the size of fish on Emelia’s plate was too big? In a close decision, Tracy was eliminated as her chorizo sauce was too fatty and offered no relief.

SO far ,none of these new judges have come up with a catch phrase like George with his “Boom Boom, shake the room” for the last 11 seasons

As shown in another sneak peek, the contestants also had to stand 1.5m apart from each other.

Thank god. That was always so cringe.

Is that a good or bad thing? I see no bad in that.
