Let’s be honest - if 10 were unwilling/couldn’t afford to give Garry, George & Matt $1.4 - $2 million (depending which report you read) contracts, there’s no chance they’ll be able to attract/secure any of the overseas chefs mentioned in this thread tonight.
The likely makeup will probably be 1-2 Australian chefs or past MasterChef alumni & 1 of the other
Ten seems to have a bottomless bucket of money for executive staff appointments but don’t have enough to retain the talent on one of their few performing shows. They really are stupid to dispense with all three of the judges.
I laugh every time an email drops into my inbox announcing yet another executive appointment while their slate of programming continues to disappoint and perform abysmally.
“I don’t want to take any gloss off tonight’s well-deserved winner…”
The problem is the timing of the announcement means that’s exactly what’s happened. Tomorrow’s headlines will all be about what couldn’t be agreed to around the negotiation table rather than what we’ve seen unfold in the MasterChef kitchen tonight
10 should have addressed today’s news/announcement at the end of the GF. Considering Garry, Matt & George have been with Masterchef since the show’s beginning - 10 not even taking a moment to acknowledge their contribution to the show over the past 11 years on-air is poor IMO.
I don’t know why seven would poach the three of them? Sponsors were dropping with George being a judge. The show only managed mediocre figures. Yes a new show might start off well. But then what? Drop to similar if not less numbers? Think thank god you’re here, taking about your gen. Just because it goes from 10 to a bigger network doesn’t automatically mean bigger figures.
I Have watched every episode of Masterchef from the beginning and have always been a “supporter” of the three judges especially when I read here of others wanting them to go. BUT after tonight I say good riddance, this finale was so fixed! If this show survives I’m sure there’s never going to be such a questionable decision again. It’s not that Larissa is not a worthy winner, she is young and will hopefully make a career from cooking and become a top chef but it was so evident that the judges wanted a female winner from weeks ago. Larissa and Tessa were their “chosen” two.
My three for new judges are Shannon Bennett, Matt Sinclair and Poh, we don’t need any English imports!
If the reports are true that the main point of disagreement was a significant pay increase for all judges, well, they picked the wrong time to ask for that and were too greedy. However, I feel there is more to the story than just a 40% pay increase, though as presented so far, it does make 10 look the more reasonable party. Also, though risky, potentially a good move to release the info about the negotiations at a time of their choosing rather than have it leaked or rumoured and seemingly being made in response to a long campaign to get George sacked from the show. It might have even lead to a small bump in interest for tonight’s GF.
Oh that’s complete rubbish. I’m sorry there is nothing to back up that comment at all. She was the superior performer tonight. And that’s coming from someone who knows and supported Tessa.
In relation to the judges moving on. I struggle to see how the show will continue. They by far and away make the program what it is. Their chemistry is undeniable and real, something very, very hard to emulate.
For a network that’s been making so many great decisions or late, not to give them a little more (if reports are to be believed) seems like a step in the wrong direction, especially when Masterchef is the ONLY establish reality program for 10 that does draw in a sizeable regular audience.
