Long distance television

That’s very impressive. For the record my best efforts from Bendigo with analogue have been NE Tas (575km), and Adelaide (543km).

Over 750km with DVB-T is phenomenal.

The distance to the transmitter from Brisbane was 830km. Made me wonder 2 things - what would be possible with a better setup - I have the good antenna but the signal is split to a lot of outlets and 2 what might be possible with a less crowded band. The other Mackay stations were coming in with good strength but couldn’t be decoded because of the South Brisbane relay co-channels. There are so few vacant channels in the area.

Yeah, and even the spare channels here are the same in most caaes, meaning nothing is easy to try for

Eg UHF 34 is the spare here in Newcastle, Wollongong, Coffs Harbour and Orange, with 35-39 being the occupied channels in all 4 areas.

This one being a by product of 34 being the pre-stack channel for SBS Sydney

28 is free in SEQ because it was vacated by Briz 31. It usually has no signal at my location. I have checked a few time when there is an opening to Mt Dowe and there is a signal received but never decoded.

36 is a spare channel for the Brisbane relays to Sunshine Coast. There is usually some low level signal there that could be Rockhampton or Currumbin depending on conditions.

I think also because 36 was the pre-stack DTV SBS frequency from Mt Coot-tha (similar to the 34 allocation in Sydney, both of course now VHF 7 post re-stack).

36 was a single frequency network with many (but not all) transmitters from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast.

During another opening to the north today a signal was again noted on the usually vacant Ch 28 in Brisbane but couldn’t be decoded - assumed to be Mackay.
