Long distance television

Will the government consider to update mySwitch with an updated channel list?

Probably unlikely… as any changes to services on each network won’t impact reception.

You are probably only likely to get the main high power services at all, they are all on there anyway.

Generally Bendigo TV is strongest of the regional channels in an arc from Werribee to about Mount Waverley. That includes bayside areas. Gippsland is usually much stronger in areas with a clear view to the East and in the South Eastern suburbs (i.e. Wheelers Hill, Dandenong etc). Inner city gets pretty sketchy for anything other than local channels.

Depends on your location in Melbourne as to where.

Living in the South East Melbourne, If you want Gippsland Channels, Anywhere south and East of Dandenong is the best choice, You will get goodish Signals. I live in Cranbourne and to get the signals average.

I use Princess Highway as a guide from Dandenong to Pakenham, Anything North will be finding it tough to get Gippsland Signals and Mount Dandy the best option. Anything South of the Highway, You have really good chance because of Flat Land and No Hills in the Way. I was lucky I was North of Highway at Pakenham but Clear view to the Black Snake Range at Tynong North and Gumbuya Park Tower

I actually think Cranbourne was one of the best spot to get 3 TV Areas in Metro Melbourne(Back in the Analog days). Great Coverage to Mount Dandy, Ok to good coverage to Gippslands and Getting BTV6 from Ballarat on summer nights(I used to get the UHF CB Repeater from Mt Bunnyiyong all the time from Cranbourne)

Strong opening tonight in Renmark, even coming up on my Sony

I hooked up my UHF aerial pointing to Newcastle to a spectrum scanner.

Block B is Kings Cross.

Block C is either Newcastle or Wollongong – unfortunately, the signals won’t lock. Maybe it’s a combination of both sets of signals.

Not sure what’s coming in on Block D, but it looks relatively weak compared to the other two sets. I think the likely candidates would be Sydney SW, Wollongong (Brokers Nose) or Central Coast.

It’s frustrating being able to see the signals on the spectrum analyser but not being able to lock even a bad quality signal to see which signal it actually is (Newcastle or Knights Hill). Maybe an amp would help.

If I recall correctly, you’re using a horizontal 4 Bay phased array (?).

Central Coast is vertical, so it’s probably not that. Sydney SW is 3.5 kw and is horizontal, so probably that, even though it’s coming in on the side of your antenna.

As for the amp, maybe it might help, but I think you’ll probably get better results with a long yagi, the 91 element ones would be best.

https://tvmap.au/ is a good coverage map (even though some areas still list Net 10 as WIN and Net 9 as SCA).

Yep, I have that one for my Knights Hill reception, though lately reception hasn’t been so good. Not sure if it’s tropo interference from Newcastle or if the wiring has been deteriorating. Newcastle/Wollongong are almost 180 degrees from one another where I am.

Why did I not know of this site’s existence? Evening solved now!

It’d be amazing if a version of this site also existed for FM radio. Too bad there’s no contact info for the website’s author.

If you do a WHOIS lookup on the website you can find their contact details. It’s a requirement of holding a .au domain.

Brief activity in Renmark this morning, died out about as fast as it came in

New bedroom TV (LG 48 inch O-LED) as my SONY was starting to have issues with the HDMI outlets. Tropo conditions looking promising tonight/tomorrow for Renmark so should hopefully get a good workout for VHF/UHF

Nice TV! Doubt reception will be any different much at all.

I can attest to DTV reception in general being the same. The only time a newer set made a difference was back in the early days where the technology was still being worked out.

Attempting to DX the Riverland stations has been fruitless. Even with close to 45dBf from the Riverland FM signals, I never got any decoding on any of the DTV channels. It probably doesn’t help these are all UHF channels, which don’t appear to be as affected by tropo, if at all.

I’ve found that some menu setups make it easier to TV DX than others. Some are quite restrictive in being able to easily jump in and check the signal on a single channel.

Everything except for CH44
