Itâs a pretty normal question if Kyleâs high blood pressure and obesity is anything to go by. Surely they have some sort of contingency plan in place.
Perhaps a nicer way of wording it would be âIf Kyle resignedâ.
Beau Ryan? Heâs filled in a bit over the years and seems to resonate well with the audience. Although a permanent gig is very different to filling in. The vibe around the place would be very different if Kyle wasnât around.
Any announcer or TV host could âdrop deadâ or at least become incapacitated.
I think if Kyle became unavailable, theyâd roll through some celebrity guest hosts for a while, probably do some best of shows and see what happens.
Jackie may not want to continue without Kyle, so she might walk away. In that case, KIIS would be really stuffed and I donât know who they could call on.
I think most stations would be in that situation TBH. Even if they had more announcers on their books, workday and drive teams often wouldnât transition well to breakfast. And even if they did, with most teams outside of breakfast doing national shows, do you cancel the National show for all stations at the expense on breakfast one a single station?
Succession always ends up being âthe new normalâ, a watered down version.
Look at Hit Networkâs regional breakfast strategy, Ben Fordham at 2GB or those now replacing Rush Limbaugh.
More platforms, more choiceâŚthe game has changed.
The exception recently has been Russ at 3AW.
What a perfect person to take over from John Burns.
The answer is probably obvious, but who on earth is Snappy Tom?!
Beau Ryan instantly comes to mind as someone who I reckon could be a KIIS 1065 breakfast presenter candidate once âKing Kyleâ calls it a day. Thatâs if SCA doesnât poach Beau for 2DayFM breakfast in the meantime - not hard to imagine 104.1 trying âBeau & Erinâ as a brekky show at some point.
Another possible idea for KIIS 1065 could be to promote Mike Etheridge & Emma Chow from The EdgeâŚeven though ARN kind of already tried that in 2009/10 for Mix 106.5 breakfast when they moved Mike E & Carmela Contario over to the main Sydney FM station following the demise of Sonia Kruger & Todd McKenney (who were the first in a string of failed post-Sammy Power, pre-K&JO brekky shows on 106.5FM Sydney).
Having said all that, I think we very well could have K&JO on-air long enough that ARN moves them to WSFM for that stationâs post-Jonesy & Amanda era at breakfast.
Snappy Tom is the nickname given to one of their producers Tom Whitaker, who has filled in for Kyle and Jackie O when they have been on the holidays in the past, and is called âSnappyâ Tom because of some of his funny antics at work.
It will be a fascinating watch when Kyle & Jackie O finish up.
It would be anybodyâs race at that point wouldnât it? 106.5 to sink back to its old MIX ratings?
Maybe ARN will just run the best of Kyle & Jackie O! I donât think they will achieve better with whoever would replace them.
Maybe if 2DayFM get their act together and come up with a half decent program, the current breakfast offering of 104.1 doesnât seem good enough.
Presuming that Kyle and/or Jackie O are the first of Sydneyâs current FM breakfast programs to call it quits, I think weâd probably see Fitzy & Wippa pick up the key demographics with either WSFM or Smooth becoming the marketâs new #1 FM brekky show overall.
Most likely, although itâs also quite possible that Sydneysiders might just stick to KIIS 1065 post-K&JO just as theyâve remained loyal to 2GB despite Alan Jones leaving and Ben Fordham (who rated OK at drive but nothing overly spectacular) taking over.
Correct. All the other stations need to do is to be âthe new heritage breakfast showâ and all will be resolved.
Why would a listener trial a new KIIS breakfast show when the same brekkie team wouldâve been at 2Day & Nova for many years by then?
All the other stations have to do is commit, sit around & wait (kind of what Nova has done with Fitzy & Wippa whilst 2Day have scrambled around with shows).
