Kyle Sandilands is being investigated by the ACT Human Rights Commission over his comments about Virgin Mary.

Kyle brutally mocked by Chaser comedians:
Itâs not mentioned on their website, but Iâve heard on the station itself (since Iâm currently over there) that 96fm in Perth has âSaturday Night Vinylâ at 6pm-Midnight (AWST), playing the best from the 60s to the 90s.
Hereâs a sample from last Saturday, courtesy of Lava:
96fm Perth - âSaturday Night Vinylâ - 19th October 2019
Itâs a worthy alternative to âParty Mixâ on Mix 94.5 & âJukebox Saturday Nightâ on 6iX.
If Jukebox Saturday Night on 6iX is the same as it is on 2CA then I can understand why there needs to be an alternative. Itâs a terrible mix of terrible songs. WSFM on Saturday night is better.
Vinyl⌠yet still part of the KIIS network.
Does Kyle know this station he broadcasts on plays The Beatles?
This is the rebrand and KIIS network that he apparently thought of.
I know Iâve said it before but this KIIS ânetworkâ needs disbanding. 97.3, Mix 102.3 and 96FM are more aligned to Pure Gold. 97.3 in particular would do better. Keep some of the newer stuff but overall adopt the Pure Gold 80s music as well. KQ and Cruise form a Classic Hits network with DAB stations in the other capitals and KIIS goes on DAB in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Then ARN have 4 proper aligned networks - Gold, KIIS, Classic Hits and Edge.
Though Edge isnât really a network. Itâs just a quasi Sydney station broadcast on DAB everywhere else.
Yes true, but they could turn it into a network with a national focus without too much effort. They need to look at the UK where a number of national DAB networks exist based on one âhubâ FM stations. (Eg Magic UK). I think theyâre missing an opportunity. Same with classic hits, they could form a national DAB network with 4KQ or Cruise as the hub.
Personally Iâd re-brand Cruise to Classic Hits and beam that into all the capitals except Brisbane on DAB with a national outlook. Iâd leave 4KQ local due to its heritage and great ratings.
I usually agree with your thoughts Brian68, but I love the branding of âcruiseâ. Itâs such a cool name and crosses the age demographics.
Yes weâre usually aligned but I actually hate it
Reckon itâs my second most hated brand after Hot Tomato LOL
Very rare for ARN to choose the name Cruise back then. Iâm surprised ARN wonât chuck a SCA and rebrand to KIIS and GOLD for each station.
Gee itâs hard to determine who would be the least interesting person in that trio - Kyle, Jackie or Shapelle.
A shock announcement for Brisbane radio is coming.
97.3 rebranding to Kiis?
Robin returning?
Itâs been discussed here many a time of the merits of shifting management of 973 from ARN to Nova for a shift to Smooth for 973.
Would it be worth it?
With a few more knowledgeable contributors in @Read_It_First and @LoveYouBrisbane plus others yet to comment, letâs read your analysis. Would it stack up? What would be the tipping point for change?
A few possibilities:
- Changes at breakfast, which hasnât exactly been setting the market on fire. Canât see Robin returning to a full time radio job so soon, and I got the impression that her initial departure was far from amicable. Left of centre guess: BBQ Bob moving on?
- 97.3 relaunches as KIIS 973, drops one daytime shift in line with Sydney and Melbourne. Unlikely, given the reluctance to relaunch any of the ex-Mix stations outside of Melbourne.
- 97.3 shifts towards soft AC, closer towards smooth (if not as smooth 97.3 itself). Breakfast reverts to a two-person format, perhaps local mornings/afternoons but no guarantees there either.
My money is on some form of change at breakfast personally.
Oh, and my semi-informed tip: 96FM Perth wonât stay a KIIS station for much longer.
I cannot see it going Pure Gold as it would decimate 4KQ.
If they were to adopt the Sydney / Melbourne Kiis format with similar playlists you would then have 3 stations sounding almost exactly the same.
