There’s arguing against a religion and then just being deliberately offensive. If there was so much of an issue about Folau and he got sacked despite his post pretty much including everybody breathing, not just those from the LGBTI community as was always reported then surely there must be some sort of sanctions against Kyle too. By the same token of offence arguments you can’t claim that it’s not ok to offend some people but ok to offend Christians and other religions simply because you don’t agree. That’s the problem with the laws including the term offence, what offends one person is different to others and there are some people out there who automatically want to claim offence to anything.

There’s a difference between a joke that may or may not cause offense about a historical/mythical person and what Folau was saying against actual living people in society. Huge difference.

Regardless he was sacked because he was deemed by his employer to have breached their code of conduct and no other reason.

Last time I checked Christians were still actual living people in society and calling them “dumb as dogshit” along with the other stuff he’s said in the past over the years is quite offensive. Why is it ok to offend them and all the people who were supporting of the RA stance against Folau suddenly go running and hiding and saying “oh no, that’s not offensive!” when it seems that anything can be said and any accusations can be made - just check out the comments on any ABC news post whenever their bi-weekly anti-religion posts need to go up. Just questioning the double standard that society seems to have created themselves.

But if you are the number one FM radio presenter or number one AM radio presenter, there are no consequences.

Sad but true.

For as long as hundreds of thousands of Sydneysiders listen to Kyle Sandilands and Alan Jones, nothing will change.

Kyle Sandilands broadcast from his LA home this morning and delivered an eight-minute apology on his comments on religion especially Virgin Mary.

And that’s how you boost your ratings when its time for listeners to fill out their survey books.

“I was just spit-balling live here” Sandilands said this morning, admitting he says the first thing that comes into his mouth and never thinks.

@nickatnights your answer is there, listen to Osher’s podcast, you can hear her words there

No because it’s entertainment radio, no one of any interest would be on air if they weren’t given freedom to push the boundary.

Kyle was broadcasting his opinion as ARN pay him to do. The person in the article is sadly mistaken, it doesn’t breach the Code. Offering an opinion is not discrimination, nothing met that definition.

Correct, Folau had a different contract, different terms and sacked. RA has different standards to ARN, so be it, ah, rather, amen (pun intended).

Some sections of society. We all have the freedom to choose here.

Correct, that’s the prestige of the position. It’s power/influence by definition, look at how many punch drunk on power Premiers, US Presidents and even an Auburn council deputy mayor have been.

3+ live hours of radio per day, lots of talk content. Obviously, it’d be impossible not to unless it’s fully scripted.

As if they’ll care. Never heard of Speckle in my life.

Dead set - Kyle needs to learn that when someone says they’re a virgin - they are a virgin. Never doubt them.

I learnt that at The University of NSW in the 90s.

And now you have. Their publicity stunt has worked a treat.

In Sydney, their scrolling RDS text promotes that they are “Sydney’s #1 Hit Music Station”.

I haven’t seen this before, they have been in this position for a while now as far as radio ratings go, so I don’t know why they’ve only just started using this positioner. Perhaps it’s because 2DAY have eased off on the use of the HIT brand?

They haven’t just started using it though.

It’s been there for over a year now, at the very least.

Strangely, I heard them use that on air this weekend too.

I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but this weekend I also heard Nova say they were some think like: “Sydney’s #1 Most Listened-To Station”.
