KIIS Network

All the feigned disbelief and insincere outrage throughout this thread, makes way for your true colours. I knew they’d likely show themselves eventually.

Don’t forget, SCA set loose the beast initially, and they even tried to get them back. And in case you weren’t paying attention, whilst you refer to it as “people’s lowest natures”, the show consistently rated #1 or #2 in Sydney, whether you, I, or anyone else likes it.

The show was far better than any shows that SCA has had since K&J left 2Day, anything Nova Ent has shoved down our throats (not that they ever put much effort in), or the inconsequential “shock jocks” on AM radio (and not even touching on the too-cool-for-school garbage that Triple J has). Like it or not, they were the best of a truly dismal bunch.

Pretty certain they have worked it out. K&J just don’t like how they worked it out.

I mean it’s kind of a weird situation we’re in where I’m a woke SJW for wanting Kyle to win

From Monday and all this week… Its a You get a… series on KIIS Syd/Mel where every single caller will get free fuel. And its not a one off…

Melbourne has Jase and Lauren alongside with Clint Stanaway and Fifi, Fev and Nick.

Wasn’t it just an extension of the Melbourne chip on the shoulder culture to reject things that come from Sydney. Hence all the Melbourne news promos that lean heavily on “made in Melbourne” or “live from Melbourne”.

Part of Virginia’s article is correct, Sydney is more accepting of hosts from other states however humour wasn’t the issue in Melbourne (not everyone is looking for ABC style comedy), it was lack of connection or care for that audience.

I agree. I for one would welcome an ARN bankruptcy, because it would most likely mean NE take full ownership of 97.3 in Brisbane and we’d finally get Smooth on FM. Potentially they could pick up 102.3 in Adelaide and do the same.

ARN have NOT been good for radio in Brisbane and deserve to be shown the door. When they reformatted 97.3 to KIIS it showed an utter contempt for the market. Not to mention selling 4KQ to SEN. I would be glad to see the back of them and make no apologies for that.

OK I’m gonna think about something else for a bit lol

I think it’s even simpler, almost nothing has ever worked for the station. I don’t think TTFM/Mix/KIIS has ever been something you could describe as successful, they’ve always been the also ran station in Melbourne FM.

Years of work in the market with a good local breakfast and they just reached 7%, getting 5% with a show they got for free with their Sydney show is fine. If someone was delusional in thinking it’d top the ratings that’s another matter, but 101.1 has never been a winning station.

In general I think this is a win win for ARN, the worst outcome is they are held to the contracts with Kyle/Jackie O and they return with huge free publicity. Best case they can save some money, perhaps with just Kyle, and give the strength of opposition in Sydney, probably keep similar ratings.

Agree, and you have to add 96fm to the list. When they purchased the station in 2014 it was Number 2 in the market and sunk to 6th within 6 months due to utterly bizarre programming decisions. Now, they are doing ok however a NE purchase and a move to smooth could work which does rate #1 on DAB in Perth.

A cottage industry on steroids.

Yep that would complete the Smooth network.

ARN have been so Sydney focused at the expense of the other cities like Brisbane and Perth. When you only have 4x FM stations you can’t afford to have 3 sounding exactly the same.

You mean the same Vega that couldn’t even reach double figures and was mostly rating in the 2s and 3s?

Theoretically, if ARN was to go under, K&J could end up owning and running the company. If K&J’s $88 million x 2 claim was to be successful through the courts, this would make them ARN’s biggest creditor.

Someone forgot to take down this website

I think 96 just needs to be left alone for a while, let it settle after the gold rebrand, tweak the music slightly from survey to survey, and return to a consistent product for an older listener. Smooth could absolutely work on FM in Perth but coming at a cost to one of the only Hot AC’s in the market could be slightly detrimental. 6ix is slightly too old, Mix is now slightly too young, 96 is in the sweet spot.

i mean… would an ARN bankruptcy really be good for our landscape?

i get they mismanage the hell out of their stations and put everything on K&JO, but idk, more consolidation kinda doesn’t sit well with me

Wishing a company go bankrupt because of a show on one of their stations that you don’t like and also have the choice not to listen to, is just incredibly immature behaviour.
