KIIS Network

Does Kyle and Jackie have to do anything with this?? Surely not

Honestly I don’t think it’s really about trying to make all their programming come from Sydney anymore. It’s more about attempting to turn the KIIS Network into a 100% Kyle & Jackie O network. Getting rid of real (and local) talent gradually until there’s none. All to pay for K&J’s $200M+ salary.

At this point in time, we’re likely heading towards a rebrand of the Sydney and Melbourne stations to K&J 1065 and K&J 101.1 respectively.

Yeah this isn’t a KJ fault. ARN is to blame here for failing to forecast.

Their $200 million dollar salary does.

They’d be a good fit at Nova if they’re interested in expanding their talent pool.

Are they any good? Have they got much of an audience? I’ve never heard them.

They are 2/3rds of Collective Noun who was on the hit network for a few years. They seem to have had good longevity considering they’ve never made it a time slot with any real audience numbers. Even at KIIS they lasted longer than most.

They replaced Mitch Churi right??

Ah shame they left SCA

Who was the remaining 1/3 of The Collective Noun?

Also - this news marks the day when only ONE show now comes from the new ARN Brisbane studios. It wasn’t that many years ago when we had the 97.3FM and 4KQ logos beaming over Brisbane from that same location.

A ghost town now.

I understand why ARN is sacking everyone. $20M annually for Kyle and Jackie at breakfast. There’s no way a Sydney show alone could support those salaries. Alan Jones was never paid that much. It is rumoured he was paid $4M annually - far short of $20M for a breakfast shift. Nor Wendy Harmer and Peter Moon. Doug Mulray either. I am adjusting this for the real price of money over time.

$20M was probably based on the potential of Kyle and Jackie rating high in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. That averages just under $7M a city. More doable. Still a push but possible.

ARN was fooled by Kyle’s ego. Oops. The show flops in Melbourne and now Brisbane is on hold. Sydney alone cannot support the yearly $20M cost.

So ARN cuts back and cuts back more. Zach And Dom are the latest casualties on the KIIS network and there have been more at the Gold branded stations. So much talent lost because of a failed networked brekkie show.

ARN needs more than a kiss. It needs full resuscitation. ARN shares were worth over $23 each in 2007. $5 in 2015. $2 in 2021. Today they are worth 50c.

Defibrillator 1011.

It has a certain honesty about it, although not much of a ring.

I wonder how long it’ll be until these redundancies take a toll on the 106.5FM ratings?

With lesser resources, how can you continue to achieve winning results?

Plus Perth, Adelaide and regionals and generating savings by sacking all of those breakfast shows as well

And charging even more for non ARN stations to take “Hour Of Power”.

And “Best Of The Best of K&JO” style filler shows and podcasts.

The worst radio deal in history?

I wonder what would it take for ARN to get rid of Kyle in order to reform their network and have their shares rise again?

Probably some kind of early termination agreement eg they pay K&J say $10 mil each today to walk away and that’s it.

That’s still a lot of money, but might save ARN in the long run.

That, or for Kyle to slip on a banana peel…

Isn’t it amazing - so long as K&J remain, the Sydney FM market will be skewed towards KIIS. Once they move on, it’ll become a more level playing field - and maybe then, will 2Day (and Nova) have a better chance.

Or will they start to decline even in Sydney? How long will younger listeners want to listen to a middle aged couple talking filth on their breakfast show?

Generations have listened for 25 years. Why would that stop now?
