KIIS Network

Because those original listeners are getting older and will start to drift off to older skewing music stations. Younger generations will look at K&J as ancient people their parents might have listened to. It happens. These types of shows have a use by date. Every show does. ARN have possibly miscalculated the use by date, like they have miscalculated the show’s appeal outside Sydney.

Matt and Jo owned Melbourne breakfast but were moved on, Wendy Harmer on 2day, Hamish and Andy waned. Everything has an expiry date.

I would be very surprised if younger audiences are listening to commercial radio in real time at great numbers anyway. I mean, you’ve grown up with on-demand ad free entertainment. Why would you?

I’m sure the numbers are declining, but they’re still there according to the ratings. If they really are totally disappearing then commercial radio needs to stop with their obsession with attracting the under 30s audience and try to instead retain the older audience. This is actually happening in US radio, most top rating stations are classic hits, AC and classic rock, very few CHR stations leading the ratings anywhere.

one of the last shows out of Brisbane right? i think there’s nothing out of BNE besides breakfast now?

Unfortunately, I don’t think the Sydney market will be enough to hold up the loss in add revenue in other timeslots and cities.

They have drifted around, mainly night radio. Great talent and a good listen if you’re a night time radio listener.

This arvo I saw where Kip from KIIS 97.3 had signed the wall at the RSPCA,where visitors and others write messages, etc. After he and Corey Oates were out there volunteering last week. He said something like ,”Congratulations to all the RSPCA volunteers, you do a great job “
That really made my day
It was the communications and media manager who invited them to come there and volunteer

That’s very 97.3FM and not very KIIS. A good move for Brisbane IMO.

Apparently Kip said on air that the RSPCA receive heaps of funding from the government but that is not the case, they only receive about 4 per cent funding from the government, they mostly rely on funding from their op shops ,World for Pets stores and fund raising events.
So Emma the communications manager there phoned in and explained they don’t receive much government funding and then invited them out there to volunteer .
I say good on them for going out there and helping out .:+1:
And ARN want to replace this breakfast team with Kyle and Jackie O in the near future???

Bit of a shame about Zach and Dom.

I remember a couple of years ago (sometime between 2021 and 2023 - before the 2024 change of piping in 19 hours a day from Sydney), they filled in for 97.3 FM breakfast over Summer and again over Easter and I thought that one day they could be a future replacement for 97.3 FM breakfast.

They did a couple of really Brisbane segments (one about Stefan’s Skyneedle and one where they did a race between driving and flying between Brisbane and Toowoomba) and it was really local radio and you could tell they loved Brisbane. Anyway, that’s not going to happen now and that’s a shame.

The other thing that changed sometime after Easter that I’ve noticed is the 90s at 9 on 97.3 has been shortened from 30-40 minutes to 9 minutes (so only 3 songs), which is a shame because that was the best 30 minutes music on the station all day by a long shot because it was the closest to the music they used to play before the KIISification. So now I switch off about 9:15am instead of about 9:40am.

Its the best bits of Kyle and Jackie O today

KIIS line up on Monday will be as normal except no Kyle and Jackie O in Sydney and Melbourne. Brisbane will run as normal.

Kyle Sandilands has something that the vast majority of people on this forum don’t have

  • a sense of humor.

I think it’s great that we have two radio people earning more than $10 million per annum from the medium in this country. It says a lot for radio. It says a great deal to all the aspiring talent in Australia that they too can have a harborside mansion from a career in radio too. And it augurs well for a great future if we’re able to attract top people to the industry (who may otherwise go elsewhere).

While it’s all very easy to join the ‘pile on’ and engage in the standard Mediaspy groupthink… I did enjoy what was posted on the Future of radio thread on Saturday.

Spencer Howson reflecting on the ‘success’ of his old mate doing breakfast on KIIS 101.1, pretty much said it took five years for him to get to #1 in Brisbane (on 612), so don’t expect overnight success for K&J either. It’s tough to build an audience. Everyone gives huge kudos to Christian O’Connell, but how long did it take him?

Sure ARN haven’t been able to roll-out their plans as quickly as they’d hoped, but give it 12months and ARN will have the top two FM breakfast shows in Melbourne.

Just look at all of the people who got sacked to pay for it. Those kinds of salaries will probably never happen again.
