I agree - they aren’t just going to turn the network into a 24/7 loop of Kyle and Jackie O.
It’s practically that already. Their content is heavily promoted throughout the day during every other program.
One would hope so, but I wouldn’t be completely sure.
They already had an iHeart station for that, and it no longer exists. I wonder why?
Nope
The money was needed for their wages
Here is yet another reason why K&J are not succeeding in Melbourne. Rather than teaming up with Melbourne & Sydney hospitals, they are only focusing on Randwick & Westmead children’s hospitals. Completely irrelevant to Melbourne listeners.
If a show is promoting themselves as, “The end of boring radio”, I’d be expecting them to at least be appealing and relatable radio.
Actually, Melbourne is included, just in a different way. It’s all mentioned in the same article you linked.
This year, not only will Kyle & Jackie O expand their Toy Drive to Melbourne’s Koala Kids, but, the donation will now rise to an incredible $120,000 worth of toys to help brighten the lives of seriously ill children over Christmas!
Koala Kids vision is to provide happy moments for children and young people, within Victoria and Tasmania, who are undergoing cancer treatment.
You can be involved by heading to a Toymate store in either Sydney or Melbourne and purchase a Toymate gift card to put under the tree for Children to help brighten their Christmas whilst under-going treatment in hospital.
Kyle & Jackie O's Toy Drive
Fair enough. I just think having all children’s hospitals in Syd & Melb would’ve been more consistent & hard-hitting.
Maybe the Melbourne Children’s Hospital didn’t want to partner with them due to the bad publicity down there this year so they had to get creative and find another way to support the children in need in Melbourne?
Why (for some reason) do I find that to be believable.
Smut-talking brekkie show now suddenly wanting to help the kids (who’d better not listen to their show 3-4mths ago!!).
It’s not sudden at all.
They’ve been doing this for a very long time. Even back to the 2Day FM days.
If you’re going to be critical of them, that’s fine and they do deserve it for most things, but be fair at the same time. This isn’t a new thing for them.
I agree with what you’re saying. I just find it ironic that this year especially, they’ve gone further below the belt with some of their other content.
Back when they first did their Toy Drive, they would’ve been positioning as, “Breakfast with the Stars”. I quite liked this approach as opposed to the more risqué content.
I think calling it “risque” is being kind. It’s foul.
Soooo, it looks like Kyle & Jackie O won’t be broadcasting into Brisbane breakfast on 97.3 next year. They announced this morning that ex NRL player Corey Oates will be joining the show for next year. The website has been updated and everything. Robin & Kip now with Corey Oates. He’s been making somewhat regular appearances throughout this year.
So that’s interesting that not only are they staying, the show has gained an extra full time presenter. I’m a little surprised to be honest.
Kyle Sandilands’ plan for national domination crumbles.
I still wouldn’t be surprised if expand eventually unfortunately . Looks like @Shrubbery has been on the mark so far. I think they mentioned maybe Q3/Q4 next year, so I guess we’ll have to watch that space. I’m happy for now though.
Great decision - interesting name for the show Robin & Kip with Corey Oates - like a menu add on
Ali Clarke won’t be returning to Mix 102.3 in 2024.
I came here wondering what ARN would do - with an impending K&J invasion do they put effort into finding a replacement and building a new show, or just go all in with K&J. It’s a different proposition to simply letting the existing show continue as is for another year or two.
However, given the news out of Brisbane, I’d say that’s definitely off the cards now.
I’m surprised about the Brisbane news. ARN and Kyle have made no secret about their plan to put K&J into Brisbane, and while it was starting to look like January 2025 wouldn’t be the time, the simple “holding” plan would be to just continue as is with no additional investment in the Brisbane show. The addition of Corey suggests ARN want to build the local Brisbane show, which goes against every other indication of what their network plan is.
