anyone can open a wikipedia account

Not really. Cannot even open one. Was trying to open an account, I’ve put in a Username, then my email, and created a password, solved a CAPTCHA or some human verification thing, and it’s taken me to this. What does editing a page have to do with creating an account? Grow up, Wikipedia. How can this be fixed? Not even using a VPN fixes my issues. Is there a specific thread where this can be discussed on, or will we have to leave it there? Thanks.

Can’t believe I’ve suddenly turned this thread into a helpline for solving people’s Wikipedia problems!

Either your IP address has been blocked because you’ve made an edit that someone deems has broken the wikipedia rules or you’re using a shared IP address that someone has used in this way and was blocked.

I don’t know the answer because my account has been blocked too. I was creating articles for Australian TV series and because I was using data from press releases in the descriptions, that’s considered a breach of copyright.

I always tried to rewrite the info so it sounded original but someone decided that my descriptions were not my own work and had me blocked forever. Oh well, their loss. :person_shrugging:

I suspect that after Survey 6 was released, Kyle and Jackie O are somewhat “damaged goods” in the Melbourne market. They are now seen as a “failed” experiment as they sink to be the lowest rating commercial FM station at breakfast.

ARN need to think outside the usual marketing tactics if they want to turn this around. Forget the gloss and glamour of the current campaigns and all the pink / purple colours. This show needs to get on the front foot or this is going to be a long and painful slip into never-ending obscurity. Melbournians need to be given a reason to try the show again.

I think Kyle and Jackie O need to “own” the failed show. Billboards shouting “Melbourne Hates Kyle” or “Kyle and Jackie O - Melbourne’s No.7 Breakfast Show”.

How about “Jackie O at Breakfast - KIIS”

“The Kyle Free Zone From 10am Weekdays - KIIS”

KIIS 1011 is at risk of becoming Melbourne’s own version of 2DayFM - always at or near the bottom of the ratings. The only difference is that KIIS may get stuck with a low rating, high cost breakfast team. Split the $20M annual salary between Sydney and Melbourne and KIIS 1011 has a $10M a year breakfast show that’s paying its presenters $1M for each 0.5% ratings point. No one has ever been paid so much to achieve so little in one century of radio in Australia.

For that sort of cash Kyle and Jackie O need to attract listeners, so far they have done the opposite. It’s time for a crisis meeting to think of a new way forward in marketing the show to the southern capital. The content of the show can’t really be changed as it works in Sydney. The right marketing might, just might, get the cumes up. The only hope for ARN is that the Melbourne population gets used to the show - but for that to happen, they will need to try it again.

101.1FM Melbourne will always be “the 2DayFM of Melbourne”. The Fox and Nova100 already own that market. KIIS101.1 needs to be different (the same way KIIS97.3 needs to be too) for them to succeed and stand out.

I am already predicting the next ARN media release simply stating how they are “churning through the old audience”, which is incorrect - as the former J&L listeners are likely still those who may like listening to K&J. In other words, it’s not like a complete format change similar to what Hit92.9 and Triple M Perth underwent.

When will the excuses stop? The sad truth is, never. Kyle will never leave KIIS101.1 not unless he leaves ARN altogether.

IF K&J depart Melbourne, what the constant slagging start… E.g. “Melbourne aren’t ready for us”, and, “We’re just too good for Melbourne”.

I actually don’t mind this- don’t know if it would work but leaning into it probably not a bad thing.

It’s already started with Duncan blaming “tall poppy syndrome”.

They also seem intent on turning 97.3 into the “2DayFM” of Brisbane. B105 and Nova already own that market in Brisbane too.

Personally, I think the slide at 97.3 is only in the early stages with more to come.

If ratings get worse… KIIS Melbourne could just run music (with news / traffic updates) as it did earlier in the year.

Monday will be KJ best bits in Sydney and Melbourne then normal programming after that…

I’ve got the perfect billboard for Melbourne.

Across the top it would read “We Hear You Melbourne”

Then “No Kyle and Jackie O Between 10am - 6am Weekdays and all Weekend. Guaranteed.”

The thing is, advertising attached to K&J, even at 3% ratings will bring in more money than pure music at 10%, because a K&J audience is always going to be more engaged and actually hear the ads.

Broadly yes, however it can certainly be toned down a little. By all reports, the nature of their content has rapidly escalated over the past year, so a pull back to where they were 18 months ago should still appeal to the Sydney audience while being less repulsive to the Melbourne audience.

I actually think that if KIIS focussed on their workdays and weekends it would make a world of difference. K&J currently have the highest rating shift on KIIS 101.1. If they improve the music, can draw in a non K&J audience during the day, and play genuine highlights from the show in promos, they might have a better chance gradually enticing more people to listen in breakfast aswell.

I’m still holding out hope Nova Entertainment will swoop in and save the day for 97.3. They could make a bid for ARN (noting NewsCorp already owns about 13% I think). They could at least launch Smooth 97.3 and Smooth 102.3. Sell 5AA. Might be a bit trickier with 96fm in Perth but who knows. A 5-city metro Smooth network to compliment the Nova network would be a great result.

They could flog off Gold/WS and KIIS 1065 and KIIS 1011 and probably still make a good buck on those. Nine radio might even ben interested in KIIS in Sydney and Melbourne at the right price. They could even consider putting 3AW on 101.1

Nat Penfold aka Croat Nat is now the Executive Producer of the Kyle and Jackie O Show.

Ah yes, we love a bit of racism in the nicknames

Yep. I know some will say it’s ok because it’s “said in fun”. But there wouldn’t be a corporate office in Australia where this would be ok.

I still don’t understand how it’s racist. It’s her name and the country she’s from? So what?

How’s it any different to being say an Aussie living overseas and you get a nickname Aussie Mitch or something?

I’d really like to know what’s racist about it.

Croatian isn’t a race.

Exactly. :+1:

If she was black and called Black Nat or something then clearly that’s racist.

But Croat Nat?

Let me clear it up for you. According to the Racial Discrimination Act (Australia).
## What is racial hatred?

Under the RDA, it is unlawful to do or say something in public that is reasonably likely to offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate a person or group because of their race, colour, or national or ethnic origin.

This doesn’t just apply to the person who you’re talking about, but to anyone in the workplace or public who overhears it.

Honestly, haven’t you ever done an online course at your employer about what’s ok and what’s not ok?
Suggest you give it a try with someone at your work from a different nationality, within earshot of HR or a Manager and see how it works out - it won’t end well.. !

Nationality and ethnic origin is also covered under the Racial Discrimination Act.
