KIIS Network

Let’s all “call a spade a spade”.

Does anyone here truly believe the rumours about SCA making an offer to K&J?

Given the even bigger recent success of the duo, why would they leave?

What would/could SCA honestly offer that ARN is not already doing? Apart from a city-based studio - which will change one day for ARN.

I cannot see that happening either. KJO and KIIS are getting their highest ratings ever, and will fight as if the network is on the line to keep them. They will probably get a nice pay rise. The loss in revenue to the business would hurt them more then giving them a pay rise.

One interesting point though, Kyle has recently stopped trash talking SCA on his breakfast show and has been trash talking Nova instead.
Could this mean the pair are having or have had discussions with SCA? Obviously not with Nova Ent?

If by some remote chance SCA do get them, the new revenue would go towards fixing SCA financial issues.

Not an unusual move before negotiating your next contract. See what the competition are willing to offer and then go back to your management to secure a pay rise or changes to conditions.

Jackie looks fantastic.

If KIIS is struggling in Melbourne to rival stations, perhaps it could rebrand to 3DB 101.1, maybe with some more uniquely Melburnian presenters and a youth focused music format. I think that the KIIS name is too Yankee for Australian radio.

And adopt a country music format

IMO KIIS101.1 and the 101.1FM frequency in general has struggled in Melbourne due to the Sydney influence it has always had.

No station has performed well since TTFM.

Mix101.1 was a Sydney-led rebrand, as too was KIIS101.1.

ARN should use “the 96FM approach” to all their stations (ie keep branding and formats independent depending on what the market needs).

Maybe it would’ve been a different story for KIIS97.3 had they remained as 97.3?

I think the above is enough proof that if K&J were to ever be networked at breakfast into Melbourne, that they would completely flunk in the ratings.

Melbourne didn’t like 3GB (MTR) and 2GB Evenings on 3AW, so don’t let history keep repeating itself.

KIIS 973 Brisbane doing another cross promotion with 7, this time for tickets to the Logies, being given away during Will and Woody and Kyle and Jacki O shows.

Using a brand name that was discarded 35 years ago is not exactly going to appeal to people who weren’t even alive then. Means nothing to them.

Totally agree with the Sydney influence being a turn off, particularly in Melbourne.
KIIS101.1 are actually starting to do really well after some consistent local investment. They’re now a lot more independent of the Sydney operation with a local PD and music. The stations sounding the best it has since the TTFM days and is #1 for 18-24 and #2 for 25-39.

Struggling? It’s in the 7s. How is that struggling ?

KIIS 101.1 is trailing every other Melbourne commercial FM except Triple M.

I do agree though that the KIIS brand is too American. It only works in Sydney because of Kyle and Jackie O. It’s last of the commercial FMs in Brisbane too.

If KIIS Sydney didn’t have K&J, I think the ratings of KIIS, Nova 96.9 and 2DAY would be much more closely bunched together.

Agree with all of that. The brand is cringy to me and every time I hear it on 97.3 it sounds dumb. Just a personal view of course.

Nobody outside or the media would think of it as American, they wouldn’t know it originates there

Sure, but compared to how it was in its Mix days, when it was in the 4s, it’s now doing well. Good content , especially in breakfast.

Nova in Sydney was in the 6s for a while and is now in the 7s, you can’t say they’re struggling.

Nova’s only saving grace in Sydney are the perennial strugglers, the SCA duo that is 2DAY and Triple M.

Anything above a 7 would be regarded as a good result considering how competitive the market are in Syd and Melb.

106.5 could’ve been called anything and it would’ve still succeeded purely because of K&J.

As previous reports have stated, Kyle was the one who insisted on the KIIS rebrand as part of his move to ARN.

To this day, I still wonder what it would’ve been like if K&J were on Mix106.5 instead of KIIS106.5. It probably would’ve been just as successful, but with a fair bit of baggage considering Kyle would constantly rubbish Mix when he was at 2Day.

Which was probably why he insisted on the rebrand as part his move.

I recall hearing him constantly deny in late 2013 that he was going to MIX.

The thing is, any sort of branding would have worked with K&J heading it up.

I don’t understand why they think they need to have an Americanised brand and American voice overs for their promos. Do they really think that attracts listeners?
