For all the grief that K&J are causing ARN at the moment KIIS cannot afford to loose them. It would be an instant drop in the ratings. KIIS would probably not fall as low as 2day fm but would be below Nova.

I guess things would escalate if all advertisers boycotted the show / station?

Wasn’t that part of the reason 2Day wasn’t willing to hold on to them at any expense?

Possibly, but they ended up in a much worse situation after they left.

I guess you have to weigh up the options and decide whether they are worth the effort overall. Kyle and Jackie O are a huge drawcard but you also have to consider that they take home a majority of the profits they generate.

If advertisers stop supporting them, then the income for the station will shrink. It will be difficult for the station to keep paying their salaries and continue to run as a business. Unless there is a clause in their contract which lowers their salaries, then KIIS will be in trouble.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Kyle apologised for some comments after major brands said they were reviewing whether or not they will continue to advertise with ARN.

The time leading up to K&J leaving 2day fm was the perfect storm. First the lie detector scandal and then the Royal Prank.

2day fm was really up shit creek with all advertising pulled from the station, and announcers. All that was heard on air was apologies between songs.

In the long run it hurt 2day fm more to loose them then it was to keep them. They have been pretty much a ratings basket case since.

I don’t think it has got anywhere as bad as that at KIIS at this stage.
Where things could get tougher for Kyle and Kiis moving forward. Advertisers are getting Woker, and Kyle is proud to be the anti Woke, and won’t change. They could feel their values no longer align with Kyle and KIIS. This could cause future advertising boycotts., this contributed to the end of Alan Jones at 2GB.

Kyle could get a show on Sky News After Dark. He would fit in well there!!!

Here’s what happened with K&J at the end of their contract in 2013.

Makes you wonder if this is history repeating itself. It is contract negotiation time now. Are they feeling the same way about KIIS management now?

Excellent storytelling by Jackie. Thanks for unearthing that @TAir, always relevant.

This is exactly why no one should be desperate enough to work for SCA.

Management then and now (as most decision makers of that era remain in one position or another) facilitate a toxic workplace culture that treats their staff poorly.

The product of radio relies all on and off air talent being valued. SCA do not. What Jackie described of the contract negotiations happens to general staff year in, year out.

In recent years, Sarah & Paddy were undermined, Bodge was frozen out and the ever successful Hamish Carter up in Toowoomba made to feel unwelcome despite almost 20 years of huge revenue on the back of his talent with a far higher net return than the large contracts K&J command.

Then all bar one team per state of regional FM breakfast teams were sacked in the middle of a pandemic during punitive lockdowns and border restrictions preventing newly redundant talent from reuniting with their families and support networks despite SCA obtaining Jobkeeper.

2013, 2022, 2023; whatever the year, SCA will continue to facilitate this culture until all management and board are removed and refreshed.

Mix in Adelaide has changed to the KIIS colours.

With this, I wonder if a rebranding to KIIS 102.3 is imminent?

Does Adelaide really need 3 CHR/Hot AC sounding stations? That would make only 1 commercial FM being in any way significantly different from the other 3.

Exactly - welcome to Brisbane! 3 CHR/Hot AC FM stations and 1 bogan talk/sport/music FM station.
At least Brisbane has great overspill FM stations like Breeze and Rebel. But it’s ridiculous in markets like Adelaide and Brisbane with only four “official” FM stations to have 3 targeting the same audience… Urgh. It’s just begging a big chunk of audience to go elsewhere (e.g. streaming).

Herald Sun reporting that KIIS’s 3pm Pick Up with Kate Langbroek, Monty Dimond and Yumi Stynes has been axed, and will finish up at the end of the year.

There is speculation in the radio industry that the Life Uncut podcast hosts Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne will launch a new show in that timeslot in 2023.

Good news but they aren’t done yet. Will and Woody needs to go. It’s just crap and they’re not funny at all.

Ugh replacing one unnecessary show with another

I agree with the last 3 posts.

Put a new drive show and do it from 3-6pm.

They rate #1 in Sydney drive, thanks to K&J.
Radio is switched to KIIS on the way to work, and back on the way home.

If it wasn’t for K&J the show probably would be in the middle of the pack at best, it would not be #1 in Sydney IMO.
