KIIS Network

So I was out at a New Year’s Eve Party, but I was told by a friend who was listening that 97.3 FM had a local announcer on for their New Year’s Eve Party mix tonight and they were giving out the phone number and taking calls and stuff?

That’s pretty cool, I don’t think I’ve heard a live local announcer on 97.3 FM at night for about a decade (it’s normally just pre-recorded networked shows or automated music). I certainly don’t remember this ever happening for New Year’s Eve anyway, it’s normally just 12 hours of commercial free automated party music.

It perhaps might have been ex-Hit Gold Coast announcer Scotty Couchman? His TikTok videos the past week have shown him doing some fill-in work at 97.3.

The Collective Noun boys, who were formerly on the Hit Network have a new show starting on the KIIS network, Saturday 12-2pm.

So since Bob retired from the 97.3 FM Breakfast show at the end of last year, they’ve been running ads all summer saying that a new co-host is “coming soon”. Today’s there’s now apparently “a twist” to announce tomorrow. Anyone here got the scoop? :stuck_out_tongue:

I wonder how this will fit into the schedule given it cuts into the current announcers schedule (i.e Ryon Jon being 9AM-3PM). It ending at 2pm is also interesting as it leaves an hour before the 3PM pickup.

In other news, are Grant’s hit music stations considered to be part of the KIIS network now? I’ve noticed no changes as of yet but I’m sure there are plenty of internal changes.

I think this is going to be a Saturday show, not a weekday show.

Oh right. Didn’t see that, it’s good they are investing in weekends then.

What’s the big 97.3 news this morning? Did anyone listen?

Bit of a fizzer.

Today’s announcement is that Robin Bailey has had COVID since New Years, so that’s the twist - she was unable to come back to work this week to do planning for the year, so rather than being back on air on Monday 17th, they’ll now start on Monday 24th.

But a new person is joining them. The announcement of that will be at 8am on Monday 17th.

Melbourne’s Jase and Lauren not returning until sometime February. Covid situation and Jase and his wife expecting their baby very soon could have something to do with it

Robin can always be relied upon to drag her personal dramas on air, and magnify them.

It’s annoying that 96FM isn’t aligned properly to either Kiis or Gold. There is no interesting shows on 96. Overall, quite a boring station.

I have to agree and the music is literally all over the shop however is it number one atm?

Disagree, it’s great.

I’m quite sure that’s literally her job.

That’s pretty sad if it is, and shows the quality of some breakfast radio.

Other stations have breakfast hosts that don’t need to milk every last bit of their own personal drama.

When 97.3 are #1 FM and #2 in breakfast, I doubt ARN and Brisbanites have any qualms about that

That’s solely due to a lack of competition. You could throw a blanket over the four FM stations in Brisbane they’re so close.

And they’re being beaten in breakfast by an AM music station with hosts who don’t need to resort to personal dramas and sympathy ploys.

Risky move when the show’s not doing too great in the ratings.
