So I was out at a New Year’s Eve Party, but I was told by a friend who was listening that 97.3 FM had a local announcer on for their New Year’s Eve Party mix tonight and they were giving out the phone number and taking calls and stuff?
That’s pretty cool, I don’t think I’ve heard a live local announcer on 97.3 FM at night for about a decade (it’s normally just pre-recorded networked shows or automated music). I certainly don’t remember this ever happening for New Year’s Eve anyway, it’s normally just 12 hours of commercial free automated party music.
It perhaps might have been ex-Hit Gold Coast announcer Scotty Couchman? His TikTok videos the past week have shown him doing some fill-in work at 97.3.
So since Bob retired from the 97.3 FM Breakfast show at the end of last year, they’ve been running ads all summer saying that a new co-host is “coming soon”. Today’s there’s now apparently “a twist” to announce tomorrow. Anyone here got the scoop?
I wonder how this will fit into the schedule given it cuts into the current announcers schedule (i.e Ryon Jon being 9AM-3PM). It ending at 2pm is also interesting as it leaves an hour before the 3PM pickup.
In other news, are Grant’s hit music stations considered to be part of the KIIS network now? I’ve noticed no changes as of yet but I’m sure there are plenty of internal changes.
Today’s announcement is that Robin Bailey has had COVID since New Years, so that’s the twist - she was unable to come back to work this week to do planning for the year, so rather than being back on air on Monday 17th, they’ll now start on Monday 24th.
But a new person is joining them. The announcement of that will be at 8am on Monday 17th.
Melbourne’s Jase and Lauren not returning until sometime February. Covid situation and Jase and his wife expecting their baby very soon could have something to do with it
