KIIS Network

2UW without Malcolm T, MIX 106.5 without the Love God? Everything moves on, and 106.5 FM Sydney would move on if Kyle Sandilands wasn’t there.

.#1 rated breakfast show in Sydney? Not getting sacked anytime soon, especially when they just signed a 5 year extension. ARN is deeply invested and happy with them.

Alan Jones might have a thing or two to say about that. But as far as FM stations are concerned, you’re right.

I’m not a fan of Kyle & Jackie O (and that’s putting it mildly) but I agree that they won’t be sacked anytime soon.

According to Radio Today, ARN have announced that Deb Clay will step-up to national news director following a review of the network’s news strategy. The review resulted in the current position of news director for Melbourne and Adelaide being made redundant, and Emily Hoskins has left ARN after nearly 14 years. Could Hoskins return to 3AW while she began her career?

Check out what K&J got up to this morning - from their Instagram.
Seriously, WTF is going on over there?

It’s just not funny or entertaining. They better watch out I think Fitzy and Wippa could pip them this year.

I don’t know if they will but they should. Besides Fitzy and Wippa, the extended team of Sarah, Matt and Tom put on an entertaining program and they’re not Vile and Tacky.

I believe they could if they extended their playlist. I really love Nova, their presenters and all their shows but it is so hard to listen to a station when I hear the same songs every 90 minutes.

I’m completely with you on that. It’s quite ridiculous too when they play the same song within the show when the playlist for the whole radio station is so much wider. Some songs get played every 90 minutes while other get played once a day.

I’m sure KIIS do it too but it’s not as bad as Nova.

I think that Fitzy and Wippa have peaked at about a 7% audience share for the past 5 years. Nova would be to scared to dump them as 7% is not too bad. Look at what happened to 2DayFM when they dumped Kyle and Jackie.

I reckon Fitzy and Wippas only chance of being No.1 on FM is if Kyle and Jackie leave breakfast radio.

Are you suggesting, they’re playing too much of The Chainsmonkers (and to a further point there is limit of how many times one could hear DLMD, Closer, Setting Fire, Paris and Roses in one listening session)?

Yes and all these which are being flogged to death right now:
Katy Perry - Chained to the Rhythm (feat. Skip Marley)
Ed Sheeran - Castle On The Hill
Ed Sheeran - Shape Of You
Zayn / Taylor Swift - I Don’t Wanna Live Forever
Scars To Your BeautifulAlessia Cara - Scars To Your Beautiful
Andy Grammer - Fresh Eyes
Julia Michaels - Issues
Jon Bellion - All Time Low
Apart from Ed Sheeren, Katy Perry and Jon Bellion, I’m sick to death of hearing those others on high rotation and now flick stations when those songs come on.

Meanwhile there are decent chart hits which get virtually no airplay. I hear these played once a day on the weekend:
Milky Chance - Cocoon
Sia - Move Your Body
Rag ‘N’ Bone Man - Human

I’ve checked the playlist and all those other songs get played about every 2 hours. They are crazy not to widen their playlist. This is why KIIS is flogging them.

A rather weird “Focus Group” themed ad is currently airing on Sydney TV for Kyle & Jackie O:

Comparing Kyle Sandilands to Donald Trump…really?

Can’t see it happening. I don’t mind Fitzy and Wippa though.

I for one, love listening To Kyle and Jackie O. Always entertaining and I love Kyle’s sharp tongue

K&J are live streaming their naked dating segment on Instagram. It says that they have 12,000 viewers, but in the comments, almost all of them are not in English - there was Russian, Chinese, Arabic and Spanish that I could recognise.
I then looked through their followers list and it’s hard to find an account based in Australia. I wonder just how many of their 148,000 followers have been bought?

Compare this to Fitzy and Wippa’s account with 65,000 followers, and almost every account looks to be based in Australia.

Well they pay for their interviews so they might as well pay for followers too. :joy:

I heard a bit of that on the repeat in the afternoon. It sounded like porn on the radio. Is this what the desperation for ratings at breakfast has led to? Do families listen to this sort of stuff in their cars in the morning?

Why does radio have to be targeted at just families? I’m not their biggest fans, but jeez, not everything needs to be G rated.

Unlike television, movies and almost every other form of entertainment, I guess there aren’t any censorship rules or ratings for content.

I have already heard parents tell me they avoid Kiis now because of the smut but I had never heard how pornographic the conversations were until now.

Right, so people can listen to something else. Agreed.[quote=“JBar, post:221, topic:68”]

There are, and if they broke them, ACMA would fine ARN.
