Kayo Sports is set to redefine the cricket broadcast experience this summer with a new suite of cutting-edge on-screen innovations that will give audiences unprecedented clarity, insight, and excitement across broadcast and streaming platforms. Set to be unveiled as part of the Australia-India Test series which kicks off on Friday 22 November in 4K ultra high definition, the innovations join the addition of a Hindi feed on Kayo Sports, bringing greater diversity and insight for India fans.

The technologies, which are a first in cricket broadcasting, will capture every boundary, wicket, and nail-biting moment at different angles, more deeply immersing viewers in the action and providing a richer viewing experience. They include:

HyperLayer: unleashing the power of AI on cricket broadcasting – Setting a new standard with AI technology is HyperLayer, a cloud-based sports data and technology platform developed by Virtual Eye. Unlike traditional ball speed measurements, HyperLayer uses six cameras tracking at 250 frames per second to capture every phase of the ball’s journey—from bowler to pitch to batter. Across an estimated 540 deliveries each day of Test cricket, the setup produces 810,000 frames of data daily, unlocking unprecedented levels of detail and analytical depth, not just for the current season but also with historical data.

The Emperor: a 600 frame-per-second ultra motion camera – This next-generation camera is at the core of Fox Cricket’s ball tracking, player tracking, pose estimation and replay systems. Capable of frame rates upwards of 600 FPS in real time, nothing will get missed. Designed specifically as an edge-ready camera, The Emperor integrates seamlessly with all HyperLayer services.

4D replays: cricket like never before – Already seen in Major League Baseball, the NFL and the Olympic Games, 4D replays are making their cricket debut. Powered by a network of 100 cameras around the stadium, these real-time, 360-degree replays give viewers unparalleled perspective of the game’s most thrilling moments. Through a new companion device on the Kayo Sports platform, subscribers can explore and interact with these 4D replays on additional screens, offering a dynamic second-screen experience that redefines viewer engagement.

Fox Sports Managing Director Steve Crawley said: “We can’t wait for the Australia-India Test to kick off. As the top two teams in Test Cricket, it is set to be a great contest and audiences can expect more analysis, more innovation and more action from the series on Fox Cricket.

“A world-class commentary team, game changing tech - this ‘Summer of Cricket’ is set to be our biggest one yet.”

For the first time, Fox Cricket is also managing broadcast graphics production in-house. Using the deep expertise of Fox Sports’ graphics department, this shift will ensure a high standard of production and allow for increased customisation.

Every ball of the Border-Gavaskar Test series will be available live and in ultra high-definition 4K on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.

The announcements come as Fox Cricket held its Big Hit fan event in Melbourne at which hundreds descended upon Federation Square to meet Fox Cricket commentary legends and experts of the game including Allan Border, Brett Lee, Harsha Bogle, Ravi Shastri, David Warner and Michael Vaughan.

The Kayo Call Up is officially underway to find Fox Footy’s Next Super Saturday Star

Kayo Sports has launched a nationwide talent search to find the next Fox Footy on-air star who will feature on the new-look Super Saturday LIVE coverage in 2025.

‘Super Saturday LIVE’ is a new offering for subscribers – as part of the landmark AFL rights deal – which requires an expanded suite of hosts, commentators and experts who will provide more analysis and programming than ever before.

Fox Footy has already shaken up the industry with recent big-name signings including Shaun Burgoyne, Tom Hawkins and Leigh Matthews with further talent announcements to come.

The Kayo Call Up launched last night via a competition reveal video which aired during The AFL Draft coverage, featuring recently retired Richmond champion Dustin Martin and Fox Footy expert Jack Riewoldt.

The competition winner will be offered a paid on-air role and mentorship for at least the first eight rounds of the 2025 home and away season.

Riewoldt said: “It was great to sync back up with my old teammate Dustin to have a bit of fun with this announcement.”

“I’m lucky to work alongside such respected and talented experts at Fox Footy and this is a dream role for someone who wants a fast-tracked career in broadcasting as part of our Super Saturday LIVE coverage next season.”

Applications for The Kayo Call Up close on December 11 while the winner will be announced in February next year after a shortlisting process.

Budding commentators, hosts, boundary riders, experts or people wanting a leg-up in the broadcasting industry are asked to submit a creative video and their details via a dedicated competition website - https://thekayocallup.kayosports.com.au/

Fox Footy – available on Kayo Sports and Foxtel – will be the ONLY place to watch AFL exclusively live on Saturday’s nationally for the first eight rounds of the home and away season (nine weeks, inclusive of Opening Round).

For the first time Fox Footy commentary and graphics will also be made available during every match of the season, offering fans a stronger choice in how they consume football coverage. Every match will also be available in 4K with no ad-breaks during play.

Discussions with Dustin Martin are ongoing.

Ay Caramba… will this be any good?

I suppose it’s an opportunity to do some split screen action and see how good the AI real-time animation is…

The NFL did a Toy Story version last year… but that was the Jags v Falcs… this year is a much better match up… Joe Burrow v America’s Team,

Still having fun.

I posted about this on both ESPN and The Simpsons threads a couple of weeks ago. It will be interesting to watch indeed.

Kayo Sports Partners with Vello Technologies In Search of Fox Footy’s Next On-Air Star

Kayo Sports, in collaboration with Vello Technologies, is giving AFL fans the chance to feature alongside Fox Footy expert Jason Dunstall through the use of an augmented reality app.

The interactive experience is part of The Kayo Call Up - a competition to unearth the next on-air star as part of a paid role and mentorship for at least the first eight rounds of the 2025 AFL home and away season.

To use the technology, fans simply need to download the free Vello AR app where they can record themselves commentating alongside the Hawthorn legend. Link to app HERE.

The video can be downloaded and shared on social media. It can also be used to enter the Kayo Call Up competition with entries sent to close on Wednesday, December 11. A winner will be announced in February 2025.

Fox Footy expert and CEO of Vello Technologies Ben Dixon said: “We’re so excited about this new technology, where we can bring your hero into your home. Being one of the few companies globally offering this to fans, it’s a game-changer for how people can interact with their sporting icons. This partnership to support The Kayo Call Up and Fox Footy allows fans to be a part of the action like never before.”

The Kayo Call-Up competition (thekayocallup.kayosports.com.au) will give fans the opportunity to step into the shoes of a Fox Footy commentator, host or expert as part of the Super Saturday Live team in 2025.

The winner will be the latest signing for Fox Footy, following a raft of recent announcements which included Leigh Matthews, Tom Hawkins, Shaun Burgoyne, and Adam Simpson joining the commentary team.

During the 2025 AFL season, Fox Footy commentary and production will be available on all games for the first time along with no ad-breaks during play and every match will also be made available in 4K on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.

Thank you.

I think Dak Prescott better start looking for a new franchise. What a joy it was to watch Homer throw his first touchdown in the NFL. He’s playing well.

It’s a shame the Super Smash from Seddon park got called off today.

Six hours of watching the same Duke ‘My town’ bios, surely TVNZ has more fill-in content they can use.

I’m still not following the reasoning for this?

Looks like poor old Western Australia and Queensland, geographically huge, hardest hit

This certainly doesn’t clear it up directly, but given the postcodes identified, I suspect its around the ability to guarantee a service (especially for those who might be on SkyMuster)

There are 200,000 people deemed “Very Remote” by the ABS - but this is a larger area than what Kayo/Foxtel have identified by postcodes

Victoria and Tas very urban, hardly any remote at all

While existing Kayo customers who live in these postcodes will have their subscriptions cancelled on the date, will this also affect other Kayo subscribers who happen to travel to these areas and want to use the service?

The new T&C seems to suggest that you can’t access/view the service from those areas - not sure how this would work in practice (geolocating IP addresses its a bit of a crapshoot outside of a broad region)

You can access the content within a Streaming Service from certain areas of Australia only. You acknowledge and agree that you are not entitled to access or view the content within a Streaming Service from anywhere outside of Australia, or from areas of Australia classified as ‘Very Remote’ by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (see our website for further information).

Is there any way to get Kayo cheaper? I remember Telstra having a deal with Kayo is there anything similar?

NRL and AFL club memberships have cheaper annual plans
