Jeopardy Australia

The audience seems bored as well

Yes this is like the UK version… super boring. Nothing like the classic US 30 min syndicated version.

Even the monetary values are piss poor.

Whoops I think I heard Fry say “pounds” already, mixing up his formats

Agree it is dragging. The US version works because they cram so much into half an hour it feels so snappy

Like everyone else’s statements, this is terrible, which should have been evident by the timeslot. How do you take a great format, usual wonderful host and suck all the life out of it so badly.

Did we know this was airing tonight? I just randomly came across it!

Edit : oh god. It’s so bad. And why are the $$ amounts so low? :grimacing:

How stupid that in Round 2 the money hasn’t changed

It’s because they play two normal rounds before they play double jeopardy.

They’ve ruined such a great game. It’s so slow.

They should have followed Celebrity Jeopardy and have Triple Jeopardy.

Enjoying the first episode of Jeopardy Australia.

I know Des Clarke is the announcer on ITV’s Jeopardy but does anyone know who the announcer is on Jeopardy Australia?

Grant Stevens.

Making a daily 30 minute show into a 60 minute primetime normal show usually doesn’t work out. The only way it can work is if it’s a celebrity version.

So it’s two rounds of “normal money”, then a third round of “double jeopardy”, and then a final jeopardy (of one question)?

Zero promotion. Due to the over promotion of Lego Masters. lol.

Yeah, the game feels much slower compared to the Amercian version. Doesn’t help that Stephen talks a bit slow as well.

I bailed out when they got to Double Jeopardy because I thought it would be half an hour and not one hour. Also, I felt that the show is a lot easier compared to the American version.

It’s worth noting that prior to last night’s broadcast, Jeopardy hadn’t been aired in a localized context since 1993. I believe Stephen Fry’s hosting style was fitting, especially considering it was essentially a pilot episode. If the game had been played at the pace of the US version from the beginning, I highly doubt viewers would grasp the format’s mechanics without either previous exposure to the US version or a detailed explanation. Fry’s evident enthusiasm for hosting a format like this shone through, and I actually found his hosting of our pilot to be somewhat better than his ITV episodes, as he engaged in banter with all three contestants at various points throughout the episode.

The concept has not really worked in Australia in prime time. There was a long running uni students version on Saturday afternoons but ratings didn’t really matter so much for that one.

Just watched this now and it’s much better if you watch it sped up.

Fully agree, that it is way too slow and the amounts are too cheap.

Also the Daily Double in the first round should have allowed the player to bet up to the maximum amount available ($300) and not what the player had won at that point.

Stephen mentioning trivia about the answer is also done too often to pad out the show from 30 mins to an hour.

What have they done with Jeopardy?

Should of just done two 30 min eps back to back if they want it to be a hour

I watched this tonight (after not watching it last week). It certainly could have sped it up a little. Stephen Fry giving some extra info after most answers were given were a little unnecessary, but was only there to stretch it out to the hour. And the dollar amounts were on the cheap end.

Not the same as the US version. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t the greatest either. Will see what the ratings be like in the morning (wasn’t the greatest for the launch last week).

Again, the pacing of the show is slower because they need to explain the rules of the format to the viewer as it is a ‘new’ concept to audiences. You cannot launch a format like this and expect viewers to pick it up instantly. I fully expect audiences to drop and the criticisms like the above to pile on, but at least Nine are trying alternative formats.
