International Sports Presentation

I sampled some of the ESPN US coverage this year and in-game it was definitely the TA world feed they were using (whereas in past years they had their own in-game graphics too). They would have their own graphics between sets and matches or when they went back to the studio or commentary booth.

Probably cheaper for them this way too, but I’m sure like Nine however probably less so, they would also have a collaborative on-air relationship with TA (and Nine and the other broadcasters) in the media compound and utilise the coverage to suit them. ESPN have always been crucial and a major player for the Australian Open, back when numbers used to be rather high in the US, but that’s changed. It’d now be Nine and Australian viewers bringing in the $$$$$, let alone the again record crowds.

I do watch a bit if ESPN Us coverage as well and its nice they are down here instead of calling from Bristol. There were a couple of years they couldnt with COVID, but i remember them coping some flack for their 2023 coverage but they sent very limited people and called a lot from the States. Also having limited coverage on their linear channels and dumping a lot of stuff on espn plus.

If saving money on using TA graphics means they host and commentate from here, then thats a good trade off

2 years later, seems like Fox is testing new scorebugs for the upcoming Super Bowl - pretty basic and boring for now, as we can’t see it animated:

It just looks so ugly… but there will be improvements when it comes to September.

It’s a shame because I think they have the best pack currently of the NFL broadcasters.

This one also seems to be making the rounds:

To me, this looks very placeholder. If it is the new graphic, then it looks downright awful.

Are the looking at more apporopriate graphics for smaller screens?

More leaks, from the insider who also had first looks the last time they changed the scorebug:

Looks blocky and text-based - not sure how that’ll be translated in the real game.

Another perceptive look of the scorebug, this time with the down marker and timer.

Wow. I hope Fox are trolling everyone with these “leaks” and what airs tomorrow is better than this huge downgrade from their current package. It wouldn’t be the first time a Super Bowl broadcaster has had leaks of graphics which look nothing like what ends up on the air.

I have a feeling the team abbreviation text will be swapped out for logos - it looks noticeably less hi-res than the “1st & 10” text above it.

Thanks to something like a 5 1/2 hour pre-game, we have some of the new graphical elements from the Super Bowl:

Not sold on the Fox scorebug… feels like change for change sake and a step backwards.

Well, I stand corrected. That leak is indeed the new score graphics.

I stand by my criticism though. Huge downgrade from the previous package. The worst score graphics Fox have ever rolled out. And I thought the Fox’s 2017 CBS imitation graphics were pretty lacklustre.

But at least they weren’t…this.

I just hope this is like the flattening of the 2016 upper-left graphic as a one-off for Super Bowl and what turns up in September for next season is a complete redesign.

I think it wouldn’t be as bad if they’d retained the glossier look of the old scorebug and applied it here to the team names but even still, just doesn’t look great.

Yeah, just looks half done. Anytime it animates to add an extra element I can kind of get where they’re going with it, but when it’s just scores and time and down and distance, it feels like there’s an important layer missing.

I would agree on the comparison to the previous package. As I said previously, this set just looks unfinished. Would not be shocking to see major revisions before the start of the next season based on the viewer feedback.

Where I will disagree is on the 2017 set. I actually thought it was very well done. It was minimal and understated, showing just what was needed without the unnecessary garbage. That unified style also gave us the pinnacle of baseball scorebugs:
